Message Point: We must shy away from the “Attention Getting Disorder” and give glory to God!

Focus Passage: Matthew 6:1-6

Supplemental Passage: Corinthians 11:31 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Introduction:

I. Doing (vs 1)

a. "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. "They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. (Matthew 23:5-7)

b. Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord, not for men.”

II. Giving (vs 2-4)

a. Give in secret; don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.

b. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:3)

III. Praying (vs 5-6)

a. Pharasee’s prayer. “Blessed art thou, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified thy commandments, and has given us the bread of the earth and the fruit of the vine.”

b. The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. (Psalms 34:15)

Invitation: Christianity is not an attention getting religion. It’s an attention-GIVING religion. It’s about giving attention and affection and glory to God through Jesus Christ.
