Focus Passage: Matthew 12:22-32
Supplemental Passage: Romans 10:13 NASB for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
Proverbs 29:1 NASB A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.
Introduction:
I. Miraculous Healing
a. Jesus healed the demon-possessed man – blind AND mute
b. The crowd around began to think He might be the Messiah (Son of David)
II. Unfounded Accusations
a. Pharisees said it was by the power of Beelzebul (another name of Satan)
b. Jesus answered them with parables (kingdoms divided, home intrusion)
III. Cautionary Rebuke
a. Understand that Jesus did not condemn His enemies because of what they said or because of any single act. Rather, He denounced them for their obstinate hardness of heart. Their words gave evidence of the evil in their hearts. The sin against the Holy Spirit is not a matter of speech; the words spoke are only "fruit" from a sin-filled heart.
b. All sins can be forgiven, but one.
c. The “unpardonable sin” is the sin of rejecting Jesus after the Holy Spirit has made Him known in your heart.
