The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Message Point: There are all kinds of people in the church; make sure you are the right kind.
Focus Passage: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
Introduction:
An estimated 10,000 physicians in the US practice with phony foreign medical degrees purchased by a broker who sold them for a living. The doctors lied on their med school loan applications and used the money to attend some medical school, but then pay the broker anywhere from $5,000 to $27,000 for fake documents stating they completed medical school training.
I. The Good (the saved)
a. The Good seed, or Sons of the Kingdom
b. Made “good” by the blood of Christ.
c. Romans 3:10 NASB "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
d. Purpose is to bear fruit. (The wheat head contains a seed; flour, bread, etc)
II. The Bad (the lost)
a. The unsaved, those who do not yet know salvation
b. Waiting to be planted; waiting to bear fruit.
c. If not planted, will be treated as bad seed.
III. The Ugly (the lost pretending they are saved)
a. The Bad Seed, or sons of the evil one.
b. Planted to cause difficulty and confusion. (it is the Lolium temulentum, a species of rye-grass, the seeds of which are a strong soporific poison. It bears the closest resemblance to wheat till the ear appears, and only then the difference is discovered. It grows plentifully in Syria and Palestine.
c. Often treated like good seed and given responsibilities and privileges of good seed because they look like the good seed. (imagine making bread for your family out of poison!)
d. Can’t tell the difference until harvest.
Invitation: Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5 NASB)
