Morals of Motherhood
May 11, 2008 Morning Service
Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK
Rick Boyne
Message Point: God gives wisdom to raise your children.
Focus Passage: I Kings 3:16-28
Introduction:
I. There is no such thing as a perfect mother. (This is not to drag mothers down, but to build them up)
a. Why did Solomon even care? Solomon was concerned with the plight of the two prostitutes because GOD was concerned with them.
b. While the church should stand for moral purity, it should also stand for acceptance and forgiveness.
c. There is no such thing as a perfect mother as there is no one here who is perfect.
d. We need to lighten up on Moms and moms needs to lighten up on themselves. (kids stories)
II. God has answers for a mother’s problems
a. Don’t look for a stress-free motherhood. It doesn’t exist. From giving birth, potty training, teenage years, marriage of your kids to grandmother-hood, it all involves stress.
b. This isn’t meant to discourage. There is good news! God grants wisdom to deal with situations.
c. God didn’t give Solomon wisdom so everyone around could ooh and ahh, but because He cared for the mothers AND for the baby.
d. God is able to grant wisdom in all kinds of situations. AND THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT SITUATIONS IN TODAY’S WORLD!
III. There’s nothing like a mother’s love
a. The real mother in this story would rather see her child raised by another than to see it split in two.
b. You have to be willing to give up things to be a good mother.
c. A good mother helps us understand the kind of sacrifice that God made through Jesus for us.
