Message Point: Holiness isn’t a suggestion; it is a command!
Focus Passage: I Peter 1:13-16
Supplemental Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Introduction: The story is told of a young girl who accepted Christ as her Savior and applied for membership in a local church. "Were you a sinner before you received the Lord Jesus into your Life?" inquired an old deacon. "Yes, sir," she replied. "Well, are you still a sinner?" "To tell you the truth, I feel I'm a greater sinner than ever." "Then what real change have you experienced?" "I don't quite know how to explain it," she said, "except I used to be a sinner running after sin, but now that I am saved. I'm a sinner running from sin!"
I. A command to follow
a. Holiness isn’t a suggestion; it is a command
b. Holiness is hard work; but we don’t have to do it under our own power.
II. A goal to achieve
a. God does not require perfection to fellowship with him, but I believe He does expect us to be serious about it. Holiness is following God’s commands. Holiness is living a life that is pleasing to the Lord.
III. A life to live
a. Matthew 5:16 NASB "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
b. A holy life will make the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns, they just shine. D.L. Moody.
