Jn. 8:32
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)

A sect is a religous group with distinctives that diferentiate them from mainline christianity. Yes, there are similarities, but there are also glaring differences.
Una secta es un grupo religioso con distinctivos que son diferentes de la mayoria de cristianismo. Aunque hay puntos similares, también hay diferencias enormes.
Each sect begins with a portion of the truth and then adds or takes away from it.

6 Principles for recognizing a Cult or Sect.
6 Principios para reconocer una Secta.
1. Every sect has a powerful human leader who claims supreme leadership over his group. They usually claim to be God or a god.
Examples: Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh, the pope, etc.
(Cada secta tiene un líder humano poderoso, quien pretende ser Dios o un dios.
The pope claims to be the Vicar--in place of Christ (el papa = vicar de Cristo = en lugar de Cristo)
2. The words of the principal cult leader are pronounced to be absolute truth, overriding the Word of God. This is done because the Bible always exposes the errors of these people. So the Word of God must appear to have errors. (Las palabras del líder de la secta son consideradas de ser verdad absoluta.)

3. Each cult uses force, manipulation and high pressure to coerce their members into submission. (Cada secta utiliza la fuerza y manipulación para sujetar a sus miembros.)

4. Each cult leader will preach a Jesus that is different from the one found in the Scriptures. (Los líderes de las sectas predica un Cristo diferente de lo que se encuentra en las Escrituras.)

5. A cult will teach a gospel of works instead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (La secta enseñará un evangelio de obras en vez del evangelio de Cristo)

6. Cults often urge their converts to leave their families. This is have more control over them. (Las sectas promueven la separación de los miembros de su familia)
