FREEDOM(:18-19)

Explanation: (:18-19)Live differently—How do we live Freely?

:18—“So Noah went out, & his sons & his wife & his sons’ wives with him.”

:19—“Every animal, every creeping thing, every bird, & whatever creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark.”

It was also Noah’s responsibility to see that the animals were “brought out” from the ark. Noah was to bring the animals out “with” himself & his family. Every kind of animal was as important to God’s plan as was the kind of humanity represented thru Noah.

Noah was to bring all out from the safety of the ark into the safety & broad openness of the newly cleansed earth. The animals were again intended to “abound” upon the earth(1:22). This they were to do by fulfilling their God-ordained directive to be “fruitful & multiply.”

Thus Noah exited the ark with “his sons, his wife & his sons’ wives.”

Also the animals of all the “families” present, exited the ark. “Families” had been produced among the animals during their time(365 days) on the ark. They were mere individuals when entering the ark but now they are considered families.

Now all(particularly men) are Free to live opposing their former world outside of God’s will. They are all, in a limited sense, free from sin!

*But HOW were they to live Freely?

“Bring out”(See :16—“Go out”—Qal Imperative)— auy yaw-tsaw'—Hiphil Imperative—1) To go out, come out, exit, go forth. Strong—a primitive root; To go (causatively, bring) out, in a great variety of applications, literally & figuratively, direct & proxim.

“Abound”—Urv shaw-rats'—1) (Qal) To teem, swarm, multiply. Strong—a primitive root; To wriggle, i.e. (by implication)--Swarm or abound.

“Fruitful”—hrp paw-raw'—1) To bear fruit, be fruitful, branch off. Strong—a primitive root; To bear fruit (literally or figuratively).

“Multiply”—hbr raw-baw'—Qal Perfect—1) Be or become great, be or become many, be or become much, be or become numerous. Strong—a primitive root; To increase (in whatever respect).

“Families”—hxpvm mish-paw-khaw'—1) Clan, family. Strong—A family, i.e. Circle of relatives; figuratively--A class (of persons), a species (of animals) or sort (of things); by extens.--A tribe or people.

Argumentation:

*HOW are WE to live Freely?

Having been set free in Christ!

Jn. 8:31-36—“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, & the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, & have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

Rom. 6:13-23—“And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, & your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, & of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, & having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, & the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Rom. 8:1-2—“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin & death.”

Gal. 4:31; 5:1, 13—“So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, & do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”.....“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

1Cor. 9:19-23—“For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; & to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.”

Heb. 2:14-15—“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh & blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, & release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

1Pet. 2:15-16—“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men-- as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.”

Lk. 4:17-21—“And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.” Then He closed the book, & gave it back to the attendant & sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.””

Freedom from sin is particularly seen in the opposing pictures of the ‘Old Man’(lost/carnal) & ‘New Man’(saved/spiritual).

*Rom. 6:5-7—“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.”

Eph. 4:21-24—“if indeed you have heard Him & have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, & be renewed in the spirit of your mind, & that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness & holiness.”

Col. 3:8-11—“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, & have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all & in all.”

The Hicks family of western Autstralia, wanted their cat, Howie, to be lovingly cared for while they went on an extended vacation overseas. They had to travel over 1000 miles to get to the airport, so they dropped him off with relatives who lived there. Months later, when they returned to retrieve Howie, they were told that he had run away. Howie being an indoor cat, the family assumed he wouldn't have the survival skills to make it on his own. A year later, their daughter returned home from school one day & saw a mangy, unkempt, & starving cat—Yep, it was Howie! WORSHIP(:20)

Explanation: (:20)How do we live Worshipfully?

:20—“Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, & took of every clean animal & of every clean bird, & offered burnt offerings on the altar.”

The first order of business for Noah was to openly Worship God. Noah’s worship was not merely entertained in his mind because he put feet to it as it were. He recognized that there was a tangible & right means by which he should honor God.

In order to do this, Noah saw fit to “build an altar.” It is important that worship(personal & corporate) have a location for focus. Not that the location itself is important but that staging a focal point for worship is vital.

The house church in China has a locale. The locale may change but there is a gathering place...a holy place as it were. One particularly associated with the Church.

Associated with the altar were “burnt offerings.” There were minimally 2(possibly multiple—plural) burnt offerings offered.

This is the first mention in Scripture of an “altar.” Burnt offerings also have not been mentioned in Scripture up to this point. However both may be implied thru Abel’s righteous offering of 4:4.

What is the purpose of “burnt offerings” in comparison to other offerings?

“The priestly legislation attaches an expiatory function to it. “But Whenever [such an] offering is presented the motive is joyful” due to its being a freewill offering per Lev. 22:17-25; Num. 15:1-11.—V. Hamilton NICOT

“As an atoning sacrifice the whole offering was offered not so much for specific sins but for the basic sinfulness of each person & the society as a whole.”.....“An acceptable sacrifice meant that Yahweh received the animal as expiation for the offerer’s sinful disposition. Finding atonement...he was free to present other offerings.”—John Hartley WBC

“In Lev. 1, no occasion is mentioned for the individual’s presentation of a whole offering. Thus he could present a whole offering freely in praise or petition. From other passages it is learned that one presented a whole offering for various purposes, as fulfillment of a vow(Lev. 22:18)”;...“A new mother...as part of her purification ritual after childbirth(12:6-8)”;...“[By] one who had recovered from a skin disease(14:19-20, 22, 31; 15:14-15, 29-30)”;...“On taking a Nazirite vow...(Num. 6:14, 16)”;...“Upon a Nazirite becoming defiled...(Num. 6:9-12);...“After an altar was constructed, it was consecrated by the offering up of a whole offering on it(Gen. 8:20; Deut. 12:27; Judg. 6:26; 21:4; 2Sam. 24:25; 1Kgs. 18:30-38)”—John Hartley WBC

These “burnt offerings” included those from among those creatures considered to be “clean.” They are not specified in Genesis at all but are given press in Ex. & Lev.

Later norms of sacrifice for the Israelites specify domestic animals & birds.—Gordon Wenham WBC.

“Birds” are specifically mentioned as distinct from all others. Possibly because they are typically not domesticated?

The appropriation of these “clean” animals for sacrifice appears to be the reason for Noah’s being instructed to take ‘7’ each of every “clean” kind of animal onto the Ark(7:2-3).

His offerings included a portion “of every clean animal.” Noah spared no expense, i.e., He did not let his reason keep him from offering certain animals ‘just in case.’ After the Flood, Noah continued to live “justly” as he had before(6:9).

The words translated as “worship” in the OT(hxv shaw-khaw') has to do with ‘bowing down’ or prostrating oneself as an expression of reverence. In the NT(proskunew) it has to do with ‘kissing the hand’ for the same reasons.

“Built”—hnb baw-naw'—1) To build, rebuild, establish, cause to continue. Strong—To build (literally & figuratively).

“Altar”2X—xbzm miz-bay'-akh—1)Altar.

From—xbz zaw-bakh'—V.—Strong— a primitive root; To slaughter an animal (usually in sacrifice).

“Burnt Offerings”—hle o-law'—1) Whole burnt offering; 2) Ascent, stairway, steps. Strong—A step or (collectively, stairs, as ascending); usually--A holocaust (as going up in smoke).

“Offered”—hle aw-law'—Hiphil Imperfect—1) To go up, ascend, climb—1c) (Hiphil)—1c1) To bring up, cause to ascend or climb, cause to go up, 1c2) To bring up, bring against, take away, 1c3) To bring up, draw up, train, 1c4) To cause to ascend, 1c5) To rouse, stir up (mentally), 1c6) To offer, bring up (of gifts), 1c7) To exalt, 1c8) To cause to ascend, offer. Strong—a primitive root; To ascend, intransitively--Be high; or actively--Mount; used in a great variety of senses, primary & secondary, literal & figurative (as follow).

Argumentation:

Mat. 2:1-2, 11—“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East & have come to worship Him.””.....“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, & fell down & worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, & myrrh.”

Satan’s desire is to be worshiped!:

Lk. 4:5-8—“Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, & their glory; for this has been delivered to me, & I give it to whomever I wish. “Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered & said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, & Him only you shall serve.’””

Worship can be misplaced:

Jn. 4:20 -24—““Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, & you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. “You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. “But the hour is coming, & now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit & truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. “God is Spirit, & those who worship Him must worship in spirit & truth.””

Rom. 1:18-25—“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness & unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power & Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, & their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, & changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--& birds & four-footed animals & creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, & worshiped & served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

?HOW do WE live WORSHIPFULLY?

Worship recognizes God’s majesty:

Rev. 15:1-4—“Then I saw another sign in heaven, great & marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete. And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, & those who have the victory over the beast, over his image & over his mark & over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, & the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great & marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just & true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, & glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come & worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.””

Worship is the result of daily & individual transformation to God’s purpose in Christ:

Rom. 12:1-2—“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good & acceptable & perfect will of God.”

Php. 3:3—“For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, & have no confidence in the flesh,”

Mat. 7:21-24—““Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, & done many wonders in Your name?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, & does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:”

MERCY(:21-22)

Explanation:(:21-22) Decision/Promise—How do we live Mercifully?

:21—“And the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.”

a.—God’s PLEASURE(:21)

This is the only recorded instance of God’s actually “smelling” a sacrifice.

Noah’s sacrifice pleased God. It is as if God literally smelled the sacrifice & it pleased Him. Noah had been obedient to his God from the heart. Thus God was pleased with the sacrificer & thus accordingly with that which was sacrificed. Certainly the ‘stench’ of wickedness had long offended God(6:6-8).

Having witnessed the obedience of Noah(& his family?) we are now told of another(See 6:6) determination in God’s “heart.”

*God promised Himself 2 things:

1)That He would “never again” bring a “curse” upon “the ground” because of what man would do. This is because man’s “heart is evil from his youth.” This obviously applies to Noah & his progeny as no one else is living on the earth. The very nature of mankind is such that given the choice between God or flesh, he will generally & willfully choose his flesh, even though by God’s intention & design man is given ability to willfully counter that same flesh by the power of God.

The family of man which will arise from Noah, though he himself is righteous, will be party to the very same struggles with sin as had Cain(4:7) & all the pre-diluvian inhabitants of earth(6:5).

Thus the flood did not permanently remove man’s real battle, which is with the sin within himself(Rom. 7:15-21). It merely removed the behavioral manifestations of his being surrendered/given over to sin’s grasp. This new world is an opportunity to again “do well” by God by voluntarily “ruling over sin.”(4:7).

Rom. 7:15-25—“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, & bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”

But if man is so made then why is he still held accountable?!

Rom. 9:13-24—“As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, & I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, & that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, & whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor & another for dishonor? What if God, wanting to show His wrath & to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, & that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”

2)God also promises that He will “never...again destroy” all other creatures along with man as He had done thru the Flood.

“Smelled”—xwr roo'-akh—Hiphil Imperfect—1) (Hiphil) To smell, scent, perceive odor, accept—1a) Of horse, 1b) Of delight (metaph). Strong—a primitive root; properly--To blow, i.e. Breathe; only literally--To smell; or by implication--Perceive; figuratively--To anticipate, enjoy.

“Soothing/Sweet/Pleasing”—xxyn nee-kho'-akh—1) Soothing, quieting, tranquillising. Strong—properly--Restful, i.e. Pleasant; abstractly--Delight.

Strong—a primitive root; To strike (lightly or severely, literally or figuratively).

:22—““While the earth remains, Seedtime & harvest, Cold & heat, Winter & summer, And day & night Shall not cease.””

b.—CONSTANCY(:22)

God’s promise from the depth of His “heart” concerns the time in which the “earth” itself exists. This implies—& is borne out in various other parts of Scripture—that there will be a future time in which the earth(at least as was then known—from Noah’s salvation till even now—will not be. There is a promise of a new heaven & earth:

2Pet. 3:10-13—“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, & the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth & the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct & godliness, looking for & hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, & the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens & a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

Rev. 21:1-2—“Now I saw a new heaven & a new earth, for the first heaven & the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

Four identifying marks of the earth’s status as “remaining” & thus under the promise are:

1)Seedtime & Harvest

2)Cold & Heat

3)Winter & Summer

4)Day & Night

1) “Seedtime & Harvest”(Wet & Dry seasons—As long as the physics of this physical world are intact, there will remain both “seedtime & harvest.” Seasons are the boundaries of both “seedtime” as well as “harvest.” The seasons do not consume one another.

--Thusly, the still future ‘new earth’(Rev. 20-21) will probably not have seasons particularly as currently experienced(See below).

2) “Cold & Heat”(North & South extremes)— As long as the physics of this physical world are intact, there will remain both “cold & heat” as the earth tilts away from & toward the sun seasonally.

--There will probably be no extremes of “cold & heat” in the new earth as the seasons will not exist. Man will experience a perfect temperature everywhere in the ‘new earth.’ Temperature at that time will not be a function of current physical interactions.

3) “Winter & Summer”— As long as the physics of this physical world are intact, there will remain both “winter & summer” as the earth tilts away from & toward the sun seasonally.

--There will probably be no seasonal extremes experienced on the ‘new earth’ as they are presently. If they will be then they will not be wrought thru the current physical workings of planetary interaction, etc.

4) “Day & Night”— As long as the physics of this physical world are intact, there will remain both “day & night” as the earth turns on its axis on its trip around the sun.

--There will be no separation of light by darkness in the new earth as there will only be light.

Rev. 21:1, 5, 23; 22:5—“Now I saw a new heaven & a new earth, for the first heaven & the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.”.....“Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true & faithful.””.....“The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.”.....“There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever & ever.”

Argumentation:

?HOW do WE live MERCIFULLY?

Isa 1:9-17—“Unless the LORD of hosts Had left to us a very small remnant, We would have become like Sodom, We would have been made like Gomorrah. Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” Says the LORD. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, & the calling of assemblies-- I cannot endure iniquity & the sacred meeting. Your New Moons & your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.”

Mat. 5:7—“Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.”

Mat. 12:1-8—“At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, & began to pluck heads of grain & to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!” But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he & those who were with him: how he entered the house of God & ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, & are blameless? Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy & not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.””

Mat. 6:12, 14-15—“And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.”.....““For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Lk. 10:25-37—“And behold, a certain lawyer stood up & tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” So he answered & said,” ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, & with all your mind,’ & ‘your neighbor as yourself.’” And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this & you will live.” But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Then Jesus answered & said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, & fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, & departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came & looked, & passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him & bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil & wine; & he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, & took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, & said to him, ‘Take care of him; & whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ “So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go & do likewise.””

Rom. 11:30-32—“For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their[Israel’s] disobedience, even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. For God has committed them all[Israel] to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.”

Rom. 12:4-8—“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, & individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Though some may have a spiritual empowerment to render Mercy to others, All Christians are to extend the same mercies we have received as witnesses to God in Christ.

Eph 2:4-7—“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), & raised us up together, & made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

Php. 2:1-2—“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection & mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”

Jude 20-23—“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”

REINSTATEMENT(9:1)

Explanation:(9:1)Blessing

:1—“So God blessed Noah & his sons, & said to them: “Be fruitful & multiply, & fill the earth.”

Gen. 1:26-28—“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, & over the cattle, over all the earth & over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male & female He created them. Then God blessed them, & God said to them, “Be fruitful & multiply; fill the earth & subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, & over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
