JESUS CHRIST OUR ROCK OF AGES
1st Cor.10: 4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
We need a firm foundation in which to stand on every day of life.
1. Christ is the rock of stability
Heb.13: 8Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Men change, customs change; but Christ never changes
We shall not be moved because “he is our rock” and this rock cannot be shaken are broken.
2. He is our rock of strength
Psalm 62: 5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
He is a strong rock to those who trust him.
3. He is our rock of safety
Psalm 62: 1Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
2He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
3How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
For he has been a shelter for me
Psalm 94: 22But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
4. He is the rock of our standing
Psalm 40: 2He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
The poet spoke a great truth when said “on Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand.”
5. He is the rock of supply
Psalm 78: 20Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
There is a satisfying spiritual water in our rock Jesus Christ
Deut.32: 13He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;
6. He is the rock of satisfaction
Isaiah 32: 2And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
Water from the “smitten rock” brings complete satisfaction.
7. He is a rock of singing
Isaiah 42: 10Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
Exodus 15: 2The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him
Eph. 5: 18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
