John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He (Jesus) was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Genesis 1
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Sound was the first element of Creation
The first thing that happened in Creation was The Word. “God said. Let there be light”
Brian Greene: Albert Einstein dreamed of finding what he called a Unified Theory. By that he meant a single idea, a single principle, maybe even a single equation that might describe everything in the universe. He worked long and hard many decades to try to find the theory and he never did. Since his passing many physicists haven take up where he left off, and many of us believe then an approach called String Theory may be the Unified Theory that he was looking for. And the basic idea of the unified description of all matter is pretty straightforward. If you take any piece of material, say a piece of wood, cut it in half, cut it in half again, keep on cutting it to ever smaller pieces, the basic question is what’s the smallest piece that you get to? What is the finest uncuttable constituent? Now we all know if you cut fine enough you get molecules, if you cut them up, you get atoms, if you cut them up even further you get other particles, electrons going around the nucleus with neutrons and protons, even though the neutrons and protons are smaller entities called quarks. The conventional idea stopped there. String Theory comes along and says “There may be one more layer of structure: inside an electron, inside a quark, inside any particle you have heard of, according to these ideas, is a little tiny filament. Looks like a tiny little string, that’s why it’s called String Theory, and the little strings can vibrate in different patterns.”
So the idea is that, according to this theory an electron can be a string vibrating in one pattern. You can call it a middle C if you want, by the musical analogy, a quark could be a string vibrating at a different pattern like an A. So the difference between one particle and another is simply the note that its string is playing. And this is the unified description that this theory puts forward: everything can be reduced to the notes these fundamental strings are playing. Now that’s metaphorical. There’s math behind this, that allows us to see all of the key elements of physics can find a home in this description, but in a nutshell that’s what this theory says.
What scientist really are saying is that sound signatures define what different molecules are and modern science says that string theory is connected to the theory of the Big Bang.
The Voice of God
Well today I am here to tell you that Science just found what we already know from the Bible that in the beginning was the sound of God’s voice.
John describes the voice of God like this,
Revelation 1:10 - I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet,
Psalms 47:5 - God has ascended with a shout, The LORD, with the sound of a trumpet.
A voice, a loud voice that sounds like a trumpet. I have never heard a voice that sounds like a trumpet but we get the idea of a loud vibration that is a voice because voices form Words.
Revelation 14:2 - And I heard a voice from heaven, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps.
I don’t know what do you think about this but it is obvious to me that God’s voice is really hard to describe. I would say that most Biblical accounts have 2 things in common
1. It is Loud
2. Vibrates
Why does it matter? Well it is interesting to see that Science keeps finding things that we already know from the Bible.
Can you hear the voice of God?
Habakkuk knew the sound of God speaking to him (Hab. 2:2). Elijah described it as a still, small voice (I Kings 19:12). I had always listened for an inner audible voice, and God does speak that way at times. However, I have found that usually, God's voice comes as spontaneous thoughts, visions, feelings, or impressions.
God’s voice can come in different ways
1. Through His Word
2. In our thoughts
3. Through other people
4. Through Creation
5. Through Circumstances
6. An audible voice
7. In Dreams and visions
Are you Listening?
We need to prepare our hearts to listen to God. “Are you listening?” a mother asks her child. She knows the child’s hearing is fine, but wonders if her child is attending to what is being said. Is the child really listening? Appearances don’t always tell the story, for we learn early to look attentive when our thoughts are far away.
“Are you listening?” our Heavenly Father may ask.
We know that we must try to listen for God’s voice in our lives. We know that God is perfectly good and just, and so hearing God’s will for our lives will be immeasurably beneficial. In order to hear from God, we must
1. Make ourselves available to God with the proper attitude
2. Recognize (discern) God’s voice
God uses lots of things to talk to us. But actually hearing from God isn't so much a matter of if he's talking, but rather, whether we're listening.
To recognize someone's voice, you need to hear it and hear it often.
John 10:4-5 (AMP) When he has brought his own sheep outside, he walks on before them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.5They will never [on any account] follow a stranger, but will run away from him because they do not know the voice of strangers or recognize their call.
II know the voice of my wife and children. When I speak with any of them on the phone, I can instantly recognize their voice. But is it more than just knowing the frequency of their voices? If someone or something attempted to counterfeit the voice of my wife or children, how else will I know or recognize whether it is them or not? The frequency of their tone is just one method we analyze to distinguish who they are.
Listening to God in the midst of pain looks very different than listening to God when life is going pretty well. In times of struggle, we tend to experience things more intensely, whether it is in clearly hearing God, or more often in his silence. C.S. Lewis said,
The time when there is nothing in your soul except a cry for help may be just the time when God can’t give it. You are like the drowning man who can’t be helped because he clutches and grabs. Perhaps your own reiterated cries deafen you to the voice you hoped to hear. On the other hand, ‘knock and it shall be opened.’ But does knocking mean hammering and kicking the door like a maniac?. . . After all, you must have a capacity to receive, or even omnipotence can’t give
Psalm 95: 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts…
Conclusion
Revelation 2:7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
This expression is repeated 7 times in the book of Revelation
A funnel-shaped cup on each side of your head catches the sound waves and enables you to know the direction of the source. The waves swirl around and enter the ear canal. The delicate skin on this canal grows outwardly at 2 or 3 mm per day to continually renew itself.
The outer section of this canal is coated by a water-repellent wax-like substance which traps dirt and helps to keep water out of your ears. The inner part of the canal does not have this substance, which is why you should never poke a swab into your ear, or the wax may be pushed back too far and block the canal. When I was a boy, my father warned me not to put anything other than my elbow in my ear.
The back of the ear canal is closed off by a membrane called an ear drum. The sound waves of my voice strike this membrane and cause it to vibrate. Thus, the air vibrations are converted into mechanical vibrations. Attached to the inside of the ear drum, there is a lever system composed of three small bones. They transmit the mechanical vibrations to the footplate, which is in direct contact with the fluid in the inner ear. Thus, the mechanical vibrations are converted into fluid vibrations. To equalize the pressure on both sides of the ear drum, a tube (the eustachian tube) runs from behind the ear drum to your throat. Swallowing helps balance the pressure.
The inner ear converts the hydraulic vibrations into nerve impulses. The outer section of the inner ear, called the vestibule, is also used for balance and orientation. Operating something like the water tube in a level, it lets you know which way is down, and gives you a sense of motion, which is your sixth sense. Spinning around causes this fluid to slosh about, which makes you dizzy because your brain no longer knows which way is up. The sensors in the vestibule are also used to keep the visual image in your brain "right-side-up" when you tilt your head.
The back part of the inner ear is a coiled duct, shaped something like a snail shell. It contains an extremely complex system of nerve fibers which can detect frequencies from 20 cycles per second to as high as 20,000 cycles per second. The physical processing of such a wide range of frequencies is an amazing engineering feat, especially since it is done in a mechanical device the size of a pea.
The decreasing diameter of the coil, causes the wave crests of the various frequencies to strike the walls at different places, which enables the nerves to report reception of that particular frequency to the brain. 23,500 sensors send these signals to the brain through the acoustic nerve which is a bundle of about 30,000 individual fibers. These fibers are grouped according to frequency, and the intensity of a sound is indicated by the number of fibers carrying the sound. These signals go to different parts of the brain, where the signals from the two ears are mixed, decoded, insignificant signals are filtered out, and significant signals are acted on and stored in memory.
Jesus explained that some refuse to hear:
Matthew 13:15,16
"For the heart of this people has grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their heart and turn, So that I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear"
Jesus explained that the family of God consists of those who listen to the Father: "My mother and My brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it" (Luke 8:21). He also said: "He who is of God hears God's words" (John 8:47); "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" (John 10:27); "Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice" (John 18:37).
Most people who call themselves Christians, do not listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. They prefer to follow their own whims, the latest trend, or the traditions of men.
Are you listening?
Can you recognize God’s voice?
God is calling and today everything can change with just one word from our God.
Adam knew the sound of God as he moved in the garden. He also could hear his voice but because of sin he decided to hide from his presence.
Genesis 3
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “ I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
God continues to speak, he is not in silence and he didn’t stop creating new things.
Today if you hear his voice do not harden your heart but invite him into your life.
