DYNAMICS That EFFECT CHRISTIAN SERVICE—I
Attention:
Our Okefenokee Canoe trip in early 1980’s/We were members of the Sierra Club/Had a great bunch of friends/We learned to explore the area by canoe(our favorite way)/Just me & wife took a 3-day canoe trip to thru Okefenokee Swamp/Got all equipment needed—camp stove, backpacks, sleeping bags, tent, etc./Difficulty#1—we planned the trip in the dog-days of summer!/Miserable yet wonderful—Appreciated rain!/Difficulty#2—Totally alone—Never saw another person the whole trip/Difficulty#3—Fear of alligators & bears but mostly alligators—One day we got the canoe shored on a subsurface cypress stump & I thought Mary would have a heart attack!—She just knew an alligator was trying to eat us!/Difficulty#4—Deer flies!!—Particularly at evening while trying to cook!/
All these difficulties were Dynamics that Effectted our mission.
Likewise there are Dynamics that Effect our Christian Service.
Need:
Paul warned Timothy of the dynamics required to fulfill his charge.
Believers must be aware of the dynamics surrounding the fulfillment of their Christian service.
What are some dynamics effecting/pertinent to/ Christian service?
7 dynamics vital/pertinent to Christian service.
1—Christian service must embrace...
TRAINING Dynamic(:18a)
Explanation: (:18a) Relationship
:18—“This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,”
“This charge I commit to you...”
Paul’s charge” refers specifically to Timothy’s purpose stated in :3-4. There Timothy is instructed to remain in Ephesus to charge “some” to teach no aberrant doctrine. This was also closely tied with the false teacher’s use of fables & genealogies(Jewish context) as they produced dispute rather than edification thru faith.
The “charge” can also, generally refer to the specifics spoken of in the remainder of the letter(2:1-6:21).
Vital Christian truth(s) is “committed” to Timothy’s trust. Thereby Timothy is expected to treat this truth with all due respect. It is to be treated with utmost care & to be disseminated in a manner befitting it. It is the truth of God for man, the outworking of which secure the salvation for every individual of mankind for all time.
“Charge”—paraggelia—N. f.—Announcement, a proclaiming or giving a message to; A charge or command. The verbal form meaning ‘To charge, is used esp. of the order of a military commander to his troops.’ Strong—a mandate.
“Commit”—paratiyhmi—V.—To place beside or set before; To place down(from one’s self or for one’s self) with anyone. Strong—To place alongside, i.e. Present (food, truth); by implication, To deposit (as a trust or for protection).
“...to you, son Timothy...”
Having spiritually begotten Timothy both thru & to the Gospel, Paul references that relationship, with the intent of calling Timothy to remember the tutelage he received under Paul.
Argumentation:
Mat. 11:28-30—““Come to Me, all you who labor & are heavy laden, & I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you & learn from Me, for I am gentle & lowly in heart, & you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy & My burden is light.””
*Mat. 10:24-25—““A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, & a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!”
*Lk. 6:40—““A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.”
Jn. 16:13-14—““However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; & He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine & declare it to you.”
*Acts 2:44-47—“Now all who believed were together, & had all things in common, & sold their possessions & goods, & divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, & breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness & simplicity of heart, praising God & having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Jn. 15:19 -23—““If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. If I had not come & spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me hates My Father also.”
Jn. 15:16—““You did not choose Me, but I chose you & appointed you that you should go & bear fruit, & that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
We learn daily moment-by-moment, our Father’s will. We are always growing in our faith some by leaps & bounds & at other times at a snail’s pace but either way we are in training.
1Cor. 9:24-27—“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body & bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
Eph. 6:4—“And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training & admonition of the Lord.”
Heb 12:9-15—“Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, & we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits & live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, & the feeble knees, & make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. Pursue peace with all people, & holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, & by this many become defiled;”
