Nahum 1:2-4
Nah 1:2 The LORD is a jealous God. The LORD punishes the guilty, and he is very angry. The LORD punishes his enemies, and he stays angry with them.
Nah 1:3 The LORD is patient, but he is also very powerful! The LORD will punish the guilty; he will not let them go free. He will use whirlwinds and storms to show his power. People walk on the dusty ground, but he walks on the clouds.
Nah 1:4 He will speak harshly to the sea, and it will become dry. He will dry up all the rivers. The rich lands of Bashan and Carmel become dry and dead. The flowers in Lebanon fade away.
PRAY: Pray that the Sovereign LORD will display His love, and mercy to us and thru us.

SOVEREIGN LORD PART 2
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: Nahum. Little is known about Nahum. Nahum means "compassionate" or "full of comfort."
B. Date: Before fall of Nineveh
C. Theme: Destruction of Nineveh
D. Setting: Regarded by bible scholars as sequel to Jonah. After Assyrians have repented due to Jonah's preaching, they relapsed into gross idolatry. They plundered other nations including Judah. Nineveh - capital of Assyria.
E. Purpose: to pronounce divine vengeance upon the bloody city, Nineveh.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. God is a Jealous God. (Exodus 20:5, Deuteronomy 4:24)
Exodus 20:5
Don't worship or serve idols of any kind, because I, the LORD, am your God. I hate my people worshiping other gods. People who sin against me become my enemies, and I will punish them. And I will punish their children, their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren.

because the LORD your God hates for his people to worship other gods. And he can be like a fire that destroys!
B. He takes revenge of His enemies.

D. God is slow to anger but He's All-Powerful (Exodus 34:6)

That is, the LORD passed in front of Moses and said, "YAHWEH, the LORD, is a kind and merciful God. He is slow to become angry. He is full of great love. He can be trusted.
1. God will destroy everything in the future but will reserve New Heaven and New Earth for us. (2 Peter 3:11-13)

E. He surely punishes anyone who sins.
