Attention:
For many, Christmas is about the change of physical seasons. With our sentiments being stirred by specific & secular, holiday songs & stories. White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, & of course the Night Before Christmas.
But none of these even approach the magnificent mystery of Christ's taking on human flesh to redeem us for God's works & heaven!
Those secular appropriations are a paltry attempt by the lost, to redeem the celebration for themselves.
Need:
Jesus was no doubt a very intelligent teacher. But What is so special about Him?
Is there any evidence for what the Church believes about Him?

The inclusion of 5 women(here Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsehba, Mary) is both “unnecessary & unusual in Jewish genealogies.”—Craig Blomberg
By Matthew’s adding them, their stories become significant to his audience.
A common factor among all 5 of them is that they are encompassed by “suspicions of illegitimacy,”
TAMAR:
:3—“Judah begot Perez & Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, & Hezron begot Ram.”
“by Tamar”—
Judah’s or rather “Perez’” entry is different in that his mother is listed.
She is “Tamar,” who is a noteworthy person known by having craftily tricked her lying father-in-law(“Judah”) into an illicit, one-time, sexual relationship as she posed as a harlot. This shamefully contorted & sordid event, recorded in Gen. 38, produced Perez(& “Zerah” his twin).
Gen 38:1-10 “It came to pass at that time that Judah departed from his brothers, & visited a certain Adullamite whose name was Hirah. And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua, & he married her & went in to her. So she conceived & bore a son, & he called his name Er. She conceived again & bore a son, & she called his name Onan. And she conceived yet again & bore a son, & called his name Shelah....Then Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, & her name was Tamar. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, & the LORD killed him. And Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife & marry her, & raise up an heir to your brother.” But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; & it came to pass, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD; therefore He killed him also.”
Gen. 38:11-16—“Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house till my son Shelah[Judah has another son by Shua’s daughter] is grown.” For he said, “Lest he also die like his brothers.” And Tamar went & dwelt in her father’s house. Now in the process of time the daughter of Shua, Judah’s wife, died; & Judah was comforted, & went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah, he & his friend Hirah the Adullamite. And it was told Tamar, saying, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.” So she took off her widow’s garments, covered herself with a veil & wrapped herself, & sat in an open place which was on the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown, & she was not given to him as a wife. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. Then he turned to her by the way, & said, “Please let me come in to you”; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law....””
Gen. 38:24-27—“And it came to pass, about three months after, that Judah was told, saying, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; furthermore she is with child by harlotry.” So Judah said, “Bring her out & let her be burned!” When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these belong, I am with child.” And she said, “Please determine whose these are--the signet & cord, & staff.” So Judah acknowledged them & said, “She has been more righteous than I, because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Now it came to pass, at the time for giving birth, that behold, twins were in her womb.”
So when we discover that your ancestors were thieves & murderers & the like, don’t let that keep you from trusting that the Lord God can use you to do His will! Remember the Messiah was produced thru such as you!
1Cor. 5:11—6:11—“But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”” “Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, & not before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge? I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? But brother goes to law against brother, & that before unbelievers! Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? No, you yourselves do wrong & cheat, & you do these things to your brethren! Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus & by the Spirit of our God.”
RAHAB:

“by Rahab”—
As with “Judah,” so Salmon” & “Boaz’” entry is different, in that “Boaz’” mother is also listed. She is “Rahab.”
This is the same Rahab from Jericho(Joshua 2:1ff.) as the Gentile prostitute who aided the Hebrew spies by faith(Heb. 11:31), having been justified by her works(Js. 2:25).
Josh. 2:1-8—“Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, & came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, & lodged there. And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.” So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country.” Then the woman took the two men & hid them. So she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. “And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” (But she had brought them up to the roof & hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate. Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof,”
Josh. 2:9-21—“& said to the men: “I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, & that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, & what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon & Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above & on earth beneath. Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, & give me a true token, & spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, & all that they have, & deliver our lives from death.” So the men answered her, “Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal kindly & truly with you.” Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall. And she said to them, “Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way.” So the men said to her: “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear, “unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, & unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, & all your father’s household to your own home. So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, & we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him. And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear.” Then she said, “According to your words, so be it.” And she sent them away, & they departed. And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.”
Salmon married this harlot(Rahab) & by her came the Messiah of Israel, the Savior of mankind!
Heb. 11:31—“By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.”
Js. 2:25—“Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers & sent them out another way?”
RUTH:

“by Ruth”—
Ruth was a pagan Moabitess. The Moabites themselves were the product of an incestuous relationship Lot(Abraham’s nephew) had with his 2 daughters.
MOABITES:
Gen. 19:30-38—“Then Lot went up out of Zoar & dwelt in the mountains, & his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he & his two daughters dwelt in a cave. Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, & there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, & we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in & lay with her father, & he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, & you go in & lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose & lay with him, & he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son & called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. And the younger, she also bore a son & called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.”
—We must be careful not to be or hang with druggies & drunkards as we may be caught up in a weakened spiritual state of moral compromise. This doesn’t mean we are to avoid them—as they need salvation & victory—but that we are NOT to be like them or condone their actions.
Ezra 9:1-3—(of the exiles who had returned from Babylon)“When these things were done, the leaders came to me, saying, “The people of Israel & the priests & the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, with respect to the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, & the Amorites. “For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves & their sons, so that the holy seed is mixed with the peoples of those lands. Indeed, the hand of the leaders & rulers has been foremost in this trespass.” So when I heard this thing, I tore my garment & my robe, & plucked out some of the hair of my head & beard, & sat down astonished.”
Balak, king of Moab hired Baalam to curse the Israelites:
Num. 22:3-6—“And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, & Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel. So Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. Then he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor at Pethor, which is near the River in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying: “Look, a people has come from Egypt. See, they cover the face of the earth, & are settling next to me! “Therefore please come at once, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them & drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, & he whom you curse is cursed.””
Num. 25:1-3—“Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, & the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab. They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, & the people ate & bowed down to their gods. So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, & the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel.”
Prevented from partaking in the peace & prosperity of Israel.
Deut. 23:2-6—““One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the LORD. “An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the LORD forever, “because they did not meet you with bread & water on the road when you came out of Egypt, & because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. “Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you. You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days forever.”
!Ruth had no right(as a Gentile & particularly as a Moabite) to marry an Israelite!
And in Scripture there is an entire book dedicated to her story(book of Ruth). It tells that Ruth’s commitment to her Israelite mother-in-law extended to her God & people(Israel).
Ruth 1:16—“But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you[Naomi], Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.”
**Likewise we were strangers of the Israelite commonwealth:
Eph. 2:11-19—“Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands-- that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel & strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope & without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, & has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, & that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came & preached peace to you who were afar off & to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers & foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints & members of the household of God,”
BATHSHEBA:
:6—“& Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.”
Technically—“by her[Bathsheba] of Uriah”—
We know her name thru the record in 2Samuel.
2Sam. 11:1-5—“It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab & his servants with him, & all Israel; & they destroyed the people of Ammon & besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed & walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, & the woman was very beautiful to behold. So David sent & inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, & took her; & she came to him, & he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; & she returned to her house. And the woman conceived; so she sent & told David, & said, “I am with child.””
*Their child was produced thru Adultery.
David attempted to cover his & Bathsheba’s adultery by bringing Uriah home from battle so that he wold stay with his wife. Uriah being an honorable man, would not go to his home to be with his wife while the Ark of God & his fellow soldiers were in the field(2Sam. 11:6-11).
David then got Uriah drunk at the king’s table, but Uriah did not go to his home but again slept with the king’s servants(2Sam. 11:12-13).
As a last resort, David then had Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, purposely killed in action on the battlefield, even involving his Military commander, Joab in the treachery(2Sam. 11:14-17).
2Sam. 11:26-27—“When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. And when her mourning was over, David sent & brought her to his house, & she became his wife & bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.”
The prophet Nathan would later divulge David’s sin(2Sam. 11:1-11) bringing David to repentance.
2Sam 12:1-15—“Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, & said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich[David] & the other poor[Uriah]. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks & herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb[Bathsheba] which he had bought & nourished; & it grew up together with him & with his children. It ate of his own food & drank from his own cup & lay in his bosom; & it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock & from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb & prepared it for the man who had come to him.” So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, & he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! “And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing & because he had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, & I delivered you from the hand of Saul. ‘I gave you your master’s house & your master’s wives into your keeping, & gave you the house of Israel & Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! ‘Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, & have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. ‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, & have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ “Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; & I will take your wives before your eyes & give them to your neighbor, & he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ‘For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’” So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. “However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.” Then Nathan departed to his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, & it became ill.”
Solomon was a later product of this marriage, thru whom the Messiah would be born!
MARY:
:16—“And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.”
“the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus...”
Lk. 1:28-38—“And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, & considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb & bring forth a Son, & shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, & will be called the Son of the Highest; & the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, & of His kingdom there will be no end.”
**Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered & said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, & the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; & this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”
Mat. 1:18—“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”
So begins Luke’s genealogy of Jesus—Lk. 3:23—“Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph,...”
In answer to Isa. 7:14—““Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive & bear a Son, & shall call His name Immanuel.”
Mat. 1:22-25—“So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, & bear a Son, & they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him & took to him his wife, & did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.”
Argumentation:
Jn. 1:12-13—“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Mat. 9:9-13—“As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose & followed Him. Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors & sinners came & sat down with Him & His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors & sinners?” When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. “But go & learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy & not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.””
Mat. 21:28-32—““But what do you think? A man had two sons, & he came to the first & said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ “He answered & said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it & went. Then he came to the second & said likewise. And he answered & said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors & harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. “For John came to you in the way of righteousness, & you did not believe him; but tax collectors & harlots believed him; & when you saw it, you did not afterward relent & believe him.”
Mat. 18:11—““For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.”
1Jn. 2:1-2—“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, & not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
Jn. 9:39-41—“And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, & that those who see may be made blind.” Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, & said to Him, “Are we blind also?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.”
1Tim. 1:12-17—“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, & an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith & love which are in Christ Jesus. Jn. 3:14-18—““And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Lk. 4:16 -21—“So He[Jesus] came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, & stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah[61:1-2]. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.” Then He closed the book, & gave it back to the attendant & sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.””

“Matthew comes down to Jesus by way of Solomon...while Luke comes down to Jesus by way of Nathan the son of David.”.....“Solomon’s line was the royal line[to Joseph] & Nathan’s line was the legal line [to Mary].” The inclusion of Jechonias in the genealogy “proves that Joseph could not have been the father of Jesus.”.... “Jechonias was accursed of God with a curse that took the throne away from any of his descendants.”—Donald Grey Barnhouse
:11—“Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.”
It is noteworthy that Jeconiah/Coniah was cursed of God thusly:
Jer. 22:30—“Thus says the LORD: ‘Write this man[Coniah(Jeconiah/Jehoiachin—Jehoiakim’s son)] down as childless, A man who shall not prosper in his days; For none of his descendants shall prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling anymore in Judah.’””

**Thereby anyone, aside from Jesus, who claims he is the Christ is a blasphemous liar & anyone looking for the Messiah outside of Jesus is a deceived fool!
*“It is both interesting & significant that since the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70 no genealogies exist that can trace the ancestry of any Jew now living. The primary significance of that fact is that, for those Jews who still look for the Messiah, his lineage to David could never be established. Jesus Christ is the last verifiable claimant to the throne of David, & therefore to the Messianic line.”—John MacArthur
Matthew presents us with an irrefutable means of presenting Jesus’ legitimacy as Christ the King, to the influential Jews who would openly decry His illegitimacy(ref.-Jn. 8:41; Jn.9:29).
[king]Josiah in turn produced [king]Jeconiah—AKA Coniah/Jehoiachin). He is actually Josiah’s grandson by Jehoiakim. Jehoiakim’s given name was Eliakim, which name was changed to Jehoiakim by Pharoah Neco(2Kgs. 23:34)
Josiah had at least 4 boys. These were Johanan, Eliakim, Mattaniah(AKA [king]Zedekiah per Nebuchadnezzar(2Kgs. 24:17)), & Shallum(AKA Jehoahaz per Jer. 22:11).
1Chron. 3:15—“The sons of Josiah were Johanan the firstborn, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, & the fourth Shallum.”
Technically, Jehoahaz(Shallum) was made king, by the people, immediately following his father’s(Josiah) death(2Kgs. 23:29-30).
But after reigning only 3 mths., Pharaoah Neco deposed him & replaced him with his brother Eliakim(Jehoiakim)(2Kgs. 23:33-34; 2Chron. 36:4). Jehoahaz was then taken to Egypt where he died(2Kgs. 23:34; 2Chron. 36:4).
Nebuchadnezzar then deposed Jehoiakim(after reigning 11 yrs. in Jerusalem) & took him to Babylon replacing him with Jehoiakim’s son, Jeconiah(AKA Coniah/Jehoiachin)(2Chron. 36:5-6, 8-9; Jer. 22:24-30).
Argumentation:
Job 9:32-33—““For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together. Nor is there any mediator between us, Who may lay his hand on us both.”
1Tim. 2:1-7—“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, & giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings & all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet & peaceable life in all godliness & reverence. For this is good & acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved & to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God & one Mediator between God & men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, for which I was appointed a preacher & an apostle--I am speaking the truth in Christ & not lying--a teacher of the Gentiles in faith & truth.”
Heb. 9:15—“And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
Office of High Priest:
Heb. 2:17-18—“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful & faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”
Heb. 3:1—“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle & High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,”
Heb. 4:14-15—“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Heb 6:17-20—“Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure & steadfast, & which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Heb 7:25-8:2—“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, & has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins & then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever. Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary & of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, & not man.”

:17—“So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, & from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.”
Thus, Matthew’s scheme divides neatly into 3 groups of 14 “generations” each....
1)From Abraham to David....
2)from David to the Babylonian captivity,....
3)from the captivity to the arrival of the Christ(Messiah/Anointed) of God.
The even triplets of 14 generations further emphasizes & confirms Jesus’ fitness for Messianic kingship.
God’s Providence overcomes man’s severely limited so-called wisdom.
1Cor. 1:18, 21, 27-29—“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.....“For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.....“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.”
Additionally, we must not forget that God’s schedule is much different than ours in regard to His acceptance of certain events. We tend to think linearly but God considers these things as well as those outside such limitations...As in the current ‘parenthesis’ of the 69th week of Daniel(Dan. 9:24-27) by God’s reckoning....The 70th being associated with the Tribulation described in Revelation.
Dan. 9:24-27—““Seventy weeks are determined For your people & for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision & prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. Know therefore & understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore & build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks & sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, & the wall, Even in troublesome times. And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city & the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice & offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.””
We are currently in what some call a ‘parenthesis’ within the 69th week by God’s reckoning!

To the law & to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
