1 Cor. 3:9-15-For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.
If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
A woman decided to have her portrait painted. She told the artist, "Paint me with diamond rings, a diamond necklace, emerald bracelets, a ruby broach, and gold Rolex."
"But you are not wearing any of those things," he replied.
"I know," she said. "It’s in case I should die before my husband. I’m sure he will remarry right away, and I want his new wife to go crazy looking for the jewelry."
Paul describes the Christian life as a building. He tells us that Jesus laid the foundation, (Jesus the foundation) but it is our responsibility and duty to build on that foundation.
Verse 11-For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
The world we live in is filled with uncertainty and insecurity. There are no guarantees for the future.....except what is found in God’s Word!
That Jesus is: The Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.
That Jesus is: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.
When He Is Your Foundation!
No Storm Can Overtake You!
No Thief Can Steal What You Possess!
No Fear Can Conquer You!
No Enemy Can Defeat You!
Isaiah 28:16-Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.
Romans 9:33-As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
The reason we won’t be dismayed or shamed is because every aspect of Jesus’ life has been tested and found completely reliable!
He’s proven Himself, time and time again as our security for everything we will ever encounter.
Look at His life:
His ability to supply our needs was tested.
He didn’t need a super market to feed 5000 people; all He need was what was in a picnic basket and a opportunity to meet peoples needs!
When the elements tested Him, He proved He had power over the external things in our life!
Remember, when the storm swirled around His boat. So He spoke three words, "Peace, be still," and proved His lordship.
Death tested Him when He stood at the tomb of Lazarus.
So He said, “Lazarus come forth!” and proved He was the "Resurrection and the Life."
He was tested by sickness.
He healed without sedatives and never used a surgical instrument. So over and over again He proved, He is the Great Physician!
The religious leaders in Jesus’ day scrutinized everything He did and said.
They knew where He went, who went with, and what He did when He arrived, but He never slipped.
And when a charge was brought against Him, it was fabricated.
That’s why we can build on Him. He has been tested, not only by them but thru the centuries others have disclaimed Him, mocked Him, accused Him, lied about Him, but their rhetoric has been snuffed out, just like the ones who made these accusations!
His life, His death, and His resurrection, has stood the test of time!
And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
That’s why you can trust Him, that’s why you can rely on Him, that’s why you can build on the foundation that has been laid!!
