Sept-11-2011 Lesson on Romans 2:1-11....3:21-26

Good News to hear

Just as I said when we started our study in Romans...we will get blessed....our toes will get stepped on...the unsaved are warned.

Where would we be if God hadn't of came to this earth as Jesus and died for us?

***After we had been used and abused by Satan while we lived in this flesh....we would have suffered for all eternity in soul and spirit because of our sinful nature.

Chapter 1 reveals the unrighteousness of man in need of a Saviour and chapter 2 reveals the self-righteousness of man in need of a Saviour

In chapter 2 Paul is showing that God will judge self-righteous and religious people.

Message is pretty simple today...we need forgiveness and God provided a way.........and this lesson helps us to be thankful for that.

This lesson also shows just how dangerous religion can be....meaning..some think they are so good and never sin because they go to church or pay their tithes or have some leadership in their church...they see everybody else's sin but, not their own.

Romans 2:1-5 (KJV)

1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Why is it dangerous to have a self-righteous attitude?

***Self-righteousness blinds a person's heart into thinking they are bless because they have not received any correction from God...but, God is giving them a chance to repent.

Some may be a religious person, might be a good person, but without Christ, they are lost...that's what Paul was telling the Jews here.

They are blinded....and look what God says about that.

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

In other words, he says, “We know that the judgment of God is according to reality.”

There are so many folks today, including church members, who live in a world of unreality.

They do not want to hear the truth of the gospel.

“Oh, I do want to study the Bible.” And then when they get into the Word of God, they find what John found in the Book of Revelation when he began to see the judgments of God.

When he first started out, it was thrilling, it was “sweet in his mouth.” But when he ate that little book, it gave him indigestion, it was “bitter in his belly” (Rev. 10:9–10)

3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

These same two “excuses” that the Jews used in Paul’s day are still heard today:

(1) “I am better than others, so I don’t need Christ”; (2) “God has been good to me and will certainly never condemn me.”

But God’s final judgment will not be according to men’s opinions and evaluations; it will be according to truth of Gods word.

Why are unsaved people ignorant of God’s intention to be kind?

Some think they are their gift to God because God hasn't judged them yet and being blessed by Him.....they go to church...pay their tithes even serve as church leaders...thought that God loved them more than others and they judge others and never see themselves... That's what these Jews thought..but, there is no escape of Gods judgment .

We are not to judge the saved or unsaved...that's not our job....our job is to tell them the truth and let God convict their heart.....

If God doesn't convict peoples heart of their sin ...then they have something to really worry about.

Because God can't save an unrepented heart...because they don't realize their own sin ...therfore their sin remains.

You might remember the story of the blind man in John chapter 9 ..Jesus heal that man of his physical blindness and spiritual blindness.

These same Jews called the Pahirisees over heard a conversation between Jesus and that blind man....and one of the Pharisses ask Jesus.

Joh 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Joh 9:40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

You see here that they thought they didnt have a problem...but, listen to what Jesus told them

Joh 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth

In other words...you are blind to your own sin... : but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth

They saw that they had no sin...they couldn't see the truth with it standing there in front of them....Jesus said He was the only way..truth and life.

The only way a person can be saved is to see their own sin and go to the only source that can give them forgiveness and that's Jesus...we can't stand before God blind of our sins and not be sorry for them and repent.

Romans 2:6-11 (KJV)

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Verse 6 doesn't mean that we can get salvation by our works...

Scripture everywhere teaches that salvation is not on the basis of works but, faith.

Paul describes the deeds of two distinct groups: in these verses here ...the saved and the unsaved.

The deeds or works of the saved are not the basis of their salvation but the evidence of it....it's the fruit that we bare because of repentance and asking forgiveness from Christ..we are not perfect but, there is evident that Christ lives in us.

The person who wants to work for eternal life may do so but,

He will be judged according to his deeds, but he is warned that it will get them nothing.

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil.

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:15).

Trusting Christ as Savior puts your name in the “book of life.” Eternal life is not a reward for effort; it is a gift to those who trust Christ...knowing that we are never good enough without Jesus.

God is just and fair because He has warned us of the consequences of judgment by not asking Jesus to forgive and repent of our sins.

But He gave us a way because we can't do any deeds....any work anything on our own to have salvation except to ask Jesus into our life

If thy shall confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thy heart that God has raised Him from the dead...thy shall be saved

Romans 3:21-26 (KJV)

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

These verse are beautifully put.

That is the gospel....that is the good news.

For all have sinned and come short of His glory.

But, salvation is given to those who accept Christ...trust Him for our eternal destiny

This message shows that its by pure grace and mercy of God that He sent His son to die for us.
