We Are The Temple Of The Holy Spirit - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
1 Corinthians 6:19 Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God;
1 Corinthians 6:20 he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.
I. Our Body Is The Temple Of The Holy Spirit - 1 Corinthians 6:19
II. Use Our Bodies For God's Glory - 1 Corinthians 6:20
1 Corinthians 6:15 You know that your bodies are parts of the body of Christ. Shall I take a part of Christ's body and make it part of the body of a prostitute? Impossible!
1 Corinthians 6:16 Or perhaps you don't know that the man who joins his body to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? The scripture says quite plainly, "The two will become one body."
I. Our Body Is The Temple Of The Holy Spirit - 1 Corinthians 6:19
Body - came from the Greek word "soma" which means bodily, body, slave.
Temple - came from the Greek word "naos" which means to dwell, shrine, temple
When we say our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, we mean therefore, that the Holy Spirit dwells inside our body and our body is His slave. We can only do what the Holy Spirit tells us what to do and we obey His every words as commands.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you!
2 Corinthians 6:16 How can God's temple come to terms with pagan idols? For we are the temple of the living God! As God himself has said, "I will make my home with my people and live among them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people."
Ephesians 2:21 He is the one who holds the whole building together and makes it grow into a sacred temple dedicated to the Lord.
Ephesians 2:22 In union with him you too are being built together with all the others into a place where God lives through his Spirit.
1 Peter 2:5 Come as living stones, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ.
II. Use Our Bodies For God's Glory - 1 Corinthians 6:20
If the Holy Spirit is our Master, because the Master dwells inside our body, then we need to obey the Master not the people around us as slaves.
1 Corinthians 7:23 God bought you for a price; so do not become slaves of people.
Acts 20:28 So keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock which the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he made his own through the blood of his Son.
1 Peter 1:18 For you know what was paid to set you free from the worthless manner of life handed down by your ancestors. It was not something that can be destroyed, such as silver or gold;
1 Peter 1:19 it was the costly sacrifice of Christ, who was like a lamb without defect or flaw.
1 Peter 1:20 He had been chosen by God before the creation of the world and was revealed in these last days for your sake.
1 Peter 1:21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from death and gave him glory; and so your faith and hope are fixed on God.
I am bought with a price not with payments of gold and silver but by the blood of the Lamb, so therefore it's much, much, much better to be slave of God rather than of the devil who will only steal, kill and destroy us after we have done his bidding.
What Can We Do To Bring Glory To God Thru Our Bodies:
1. Don't smoke, drink and other vices - it's clear that these vices are destroying our bodies slowly, so to do them is to destroy God's Holy Temple. We are promised freedom, sure we are free do do what we wanted but first you have to consult the Master, the Holy Spirit, and also if it's beneficial, if it's beneficial to take drugs, smoke and drink then do it!
1 Corinthians 6:12 Someone will say, "I am allowed to do anything." Yes; but not everything is good for you. I could say that I am allowed to do anything, but I am not going to let anything make me its slave.
1 Corinthians 10:23 "We are allowed to do anything," so they say. That is true, but not everything is good. "We are allowed to do anything"---but not everything is helpful.
Romans 14:14 My union with the Lord Jesus makes me certain that no food is of itself ritually unclean; but if you believe that some food is unclean, then it becomes unclean for you.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God's glory.
2. Bring glory to Him by service and ministry - use our strength to do God's bidding for His people, thru the service and ministry for His people.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.
Romans 6:19 (I use everyday language because of the weakness of your natural selves.) At one time you surrendered yourselves entirely as slaves to impurity and wickedness for wicked purposes. In the same way you must now surrender yourselves entirely as slaves of righteousness for holy purposes.
Romans 12:1 So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.
Pray this prayer with me please:
O Father, I surrender my entire body to you as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God which is my reasonable service, help me Lord, do all righteousness for the sake of the Master, the Holy Spirit, which dwells on my body. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
Philippians 1:20 My deep desire and hope is that I shall never fail in my duty, but that at all times, and especially right now, I shall be full of courage, so that with my whole being I shall bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are the chosen race, the King's priests, the holy nation, God's own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvelous light.
