If we reject God, it's a process, it won't happen overnight, God gives us chances to return back before, and during the process. Here are stages of what we call rejection of God's call and Words.
I. You don't obey God's Words
II. You Worship Other gods
III. You Will Be Taken Out Of The Promised Land
IV. You Will Be Left Behind By God
V. People Will Be Amazed and Ridicule You.
VI. You Will Return To Egypt
I. You don't obey God's Words
All God's commands and laws are in His Words, the Holy Bible. If you stop "listening" to it, you failed already at the first step. You suppose to study, have daily devotions, read meditatively and apply God's Words in your life regularly, if you stop doing this, you start to fall on that proverbial slide, you starts to slide down, and regress. Make it a habit to obey God's Words at all cost, it's for our own good.
Leviticus 26:14 "But if you don't obey me and all my commands, bad things will happen to you.
Deuteronomy 28:15 "But if you don't listen to what the LORD your God tells you--if you don't obey all his commands and laws that I tell you today--then all these bad things will happen to you:
Isaiah 48:17 The LORD, the Savior, the Holy One of Israel, says, "I am the LORD your God. I teach you for your own good. I lead you in the way you should go.
II. You Worship Other gods
Idolatry is anyone or anything that stands in the way between you and God. The love of money can also be one form of idolatry. It is your own hand's doing. Quit placing people, person, or things to stand between God and you.
Deuteronomy 4:16 So be careful! Don't sin and destroy yourselves by making false gods or statues in the shape of any living thing. Don't make an idol that looks like a man or a woman,
Acts 7:41 So the people made an idol that looked like a calf. Then they brought sacrifices to it. They were very happy with what they had made with their own hands.
1Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
III. You Will Be Taken Out Of The Promised Land
You will be defeated in your own territory and your properties will be stolen from you. Your expertise will lose it's glow.
Leviticus 26:33 I will scatter you among the nations. I will pull out my sword and destroy you. Your land will become empty, and your cities will be destroyed.
Leviticus 26:34 "You will be taken to your enemy's country. Your country will be empty. So your land will finally get its rest. The land will enjoy its time of rest.
Leviticus 26:35 During the time that the land is empty, it will get the time of rest that you did not give it while you lived there.
Leviticus 26:36 The survivors will lose their courage in the land of their enemies. They will be afraid of everything. They will run around like a leaf blown by the wind. They will run as if someone is chasing them with a sword. They will fall even when no one is chasing them.
IV. You Will Be Left Behind By God
You will be left behind by God. Your enemies will start to triumph over you.
Leviticus 26:37 They will run as if someone is chasing them with a sword. They will fall over each other--even when no one is chasing them. "You will not be strong enough to stand up against your enemies.
Leviticus 26:38 You will be lost in other nations. You will disappear in the land of your enemies.
Leviticus 26:39 So the survivors will rot away in their sin in their enemies' countries. They will rot away in their sins just as their ancestors did.
V. People Will Ridicule You.
Failure upon failure will happen to you but what is most hurting is the very people that saw your success before will be shocked enough to ridicule you since you failed God and God is no longer at your side.
2Chronicles 29:8 So the LORD became very angry with the people of Judah and Jerusalem. He punished them so badly that it shocks and scares people to hear about it. But then they just laugh and shout their own insults against Judah. You know this is true. You have seen it happen.

VI. You Will Return To Egypt
Egypt is a type of sin. You will return to your former sins, meaning you will start to backslide. Remember the Isralites whenever they want to rebel against Mose's words that came from God, they always want to return to Egypt. Forget about Egypt, God has much more wonderful plans for this life, and in the life to come.
Job 20:15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
2Peter 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Revelations 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
Once you see all these signs, repent and get back to God
