Today is Mothers day and I would like to give honor where honor is due and that’s to all the Godly Mothers and also Grand Mothers.
The Bible says in:
Pr 6:20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Pr 6:21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
Pr 6:22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
Pr 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948) first suggested the national observance of an annual day honoring all mothers because she had loved her own mother so dearly. At a memorial service for her mother on May 10, 1908, Miss Jarvis gave a carnation (her mother’s favorite flower) to each person who attended. Within he next few years, the idea of a day to honor mothers gained popularity, and Mother’s Day was observed in a number of large cities in the U.S. On May 9, 1914, by an act of Congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. He established the day as a time for "public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.? By then it had become customary to wear white carnations to honor departed mothers and red to honor the living, a custom that continues to this day.
Bible says that the law of a Mother shall lead you and shall be a light unto you and you will remember what your Mother taught you through out your life…you young people may not think so but you will remember those acts of love and kindness that your Mom or Grand Mother did when you get older. That’s a love that only comes from our Lord in Heaven.
I want to honer all the Godly Moms out there this morning but, this morning I want to mention and honer 3 that I believe will be a inperation to those of you who are listening.
First is my wife Brenda …I want to thank her for being a good Mother to my sons Keith and Kevin and a loving and insperatiual Grand Mother to our 4 grand children. God will honer her one day for her love and kindness and her Godly infulance.
I want to give honer in remerance to my Mom who died in April of 1993 with cancer.
Shortly before Dad died in 2004 my brother Everette and I found a poem in an old compostion book that Mama had written years ago when my 2 brothers and I were just young.
It was written in her on hand writing and touches my heart each time I read it .
Our Mom was always an Godly insperation in our life and I believe finding that poem so many years later was a way of God telling me….your Mother knows about the change in your life…your Mom knows how God changed your whole family and now is serving Him.
My Mom will meet me on the shores of Heaven one day when this life is done.
What a joyeous time that will be for sons and daughters to be reunited with their Mom that has gone on to be with the Lord
I would like to read that poem and it goes as follows:……by Reva Miller
A Mothers Secret For Success
When in the morning I wash my children, I prayed that they might be washed by the Saviours precious blood.
When I put on their garments, I prayed that they might be arrayed by the garments of salvation in the robe of Gods righteousness.
When I give them food, I prayed that they might be feed with the bread of life.
When I started them on the road to school, I prayed that their faith might be as a shining light brighter and brighter to the perfect day.
When I put them to sleep, I prayed that they might be enfolded in the Saviours everlasting arms. Reva Miller
What a presious thing for God to do in preserving that until the appointed time.
You know Folks, it’s the unselfess love of a Mother and a concern for her childrens well being that causes prayers to be answerd. A Godly Mothers prayers for her children I believe takes priroity in Heaven.
Mama was never that out spoken about her faith but, we all knew that she love the Lord it was the little things that she would say that made her a shing light fopr Christ. The Bible is saying in Provers chapter 6 that forsake not the law of the Mother in verse 20 and the law is the light in verse 23
Thats what Mama wanted her children to be ….a shining light for other to see.
I believe thats what every Goldy Mom wants for her children …is to be a shining light …a light that shines for Jesus….a Godly Mother thinks about where her family will spend enterity and because of the love of a Mother ….it becomes a great concern.
If its not a concern…then there is no love.
We should have a concern for the lost….why because Jesus commaned that we love one another…now if we love one another then …others Salvation becomes a concern.
I believe that’s the reason there is no concern for the lost because there is no love for others.
The last Mother I want to honer this morning is a lady by the name of Nellie Hardy.
Im using using Nellies story this morning because in her last days before her death , her main concern was that the family she loved so much was going to be with her in Heaven one day…the salvation of her sons and daugthers, husband…and grand children.
I had heard that Nellie had cancer and Brenda and I had talked about visiting her one day but, never did…there was always and excuse…..there is never time…we should make time when God speaks to our hearts to visit someone.
My phone rang one night around 830 around the first of Oct 2007..I was already for bed and kicked back in my recliner.. It was Jerry, Nellies son ….I ask how she was doing and he began to tell that Hospice had been called in and it was just a matter of time.
Jerry said the reason I called mama wanted you to come over and talk to all of us. I said is everybody there? Jerry said yes all the children, grandchildren and inlaws were there. I told Brenda and we got ready and I grabed my Bible and drove to Nellies home.
I prayed all the way there that God would take control of this sitution and guide me in what He have me do…its not about me..its about a Mothers love and Gods plan of Salvation …….and not any would persih but have enturnal life.
I went to Nellies bedside and talked to her in private…Nellie asured me of her salvation and ask me to preach her furnel and I told her I would be honered, but she was concerned about her families Salvation
I could see that sincere love and affection for her family that only can be seen in a Mothers eyes
I told Nellie that I would tell them and God would do the rest and it was up to them if they accepted Christ or not but I woild do that right now.
I called all of Nellies family by her bedside and told them what her Mom had requested, that she was going to Heaven soon and it was her desire to spend enturnty with all of them because she loved them so much…it became the main concern of a dieing Mother to make sure she would see them all again….. and just as He promised …God showed up because after I presented Gods plan of salvation and I ask them to bow their heads and say this little prayer with me or they could pray it to their self or out loud but mean it from the bottom of their hearts…we all bowed and I just began to say a simple little prayer like the sinners prayer thinking to my self I was going to be the only one heard and each word I spoke everyone in that room that night began to repeat it…to me it sounded better than any chour music you have ever listen to.
When it was all said and done all of Nellies Hardys family had accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour…God had anwsered a Godly Mothers prayer… Satan had lost and Christ had won a great victory that night because of a Mothers love for her family including her husband.
After we all rejoyced that night in what God had done…I returned to Nellies bedside to say goodnight and I would see her in the morning and contunie to check on her and the family for a while…she was laying on her back looking up at the ceiling with a smile on her face and I said softly…its good aint it Nellie? She said, it sure is Ronnie.
God is good…Gods love is just unexplaible….you just cant aborsb it all…its just beyound comprehichen
About 2 weeks later Nellie Hardy went home to be with the Lord but she died in peace, she died in knowing that one day she would see her family again.
A Mothers love, a Mothers concern…..it was Gods love for mankind…it was Jesus Christs blood that was shed for Nellie Hardy and her family
It was Christ blood that was shed for us all.
John 3 16
I changle you this morning if you have a Godly Mother or Grandmother that has been a influcence in your life…call them and thank them…call and tell them you love them for being concerned where you will spend enturnty.
You have to love somone to be concerned about their salvation….I believe that a Mothers love is a small exsample of the love that God has for us.
It’s a will that none should persih but have everlasting life.
How about you this morning…has your Mother gone on to be with the Lord and you don’t know if you will join her or not?
Or could you be a Mom that’s never accepted Christ as your Saviour and you only want the best for you children….their well being is your biggest concen…well the best is yet to come…if you are a child of God.
Which ever the case may be…if you havent accepted Christ as your Saviour..there is no hope there will be no peace…there will be no joy..only torment for all enturnity.
But its not to late….God is still saving souls…God still hears those sinners prayers.
The Bible says…
Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Ro 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Say this little prayer with me and mean it from your heart…
Father in the name of Jesus…I ask you to forgive me of my sins and come into my life…I accept Christ as my Saviour and I believe that Jesus was raised from the dead and He is the son of the living God and He died for my sins and Lord thank you for saving me…in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord …Amen
Love in Christ Jesus, Ronnie Miller
