Memos from God
Ps. 135:13
Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.
(SRVA)
memorial = in honor of; something to cause one to remember
Some things He (God) wants you and I to remember---that is why we can celebrate a spiritual Memorial Day.
What you might do to help yourself remember.
1. tie a string on your finger
2. stick a note on the fridge
3. set a special alarm on your cell phone or Ipod
4. paste it on Facebook
The Bible is full of references of "forget not" and "remember". God even has unique ways of helping us to remember those things that He deems important for his children.
I. A Promise to Remember
Gen. 9:15,16
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. (KJV)
(SRVA)
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. (KJV)
(SRVA)
He promised that He would never again destroy the earth by water. Many times after a good hard rain, we see this memorial---a rainbow.
II. A Day to Remember
Ex. 20:8
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. (KJV)
8 "Acuérdate del día del sábado para santificarlo. (SRVA)
This was so important to God, that He allowed it to be placed on the calendar once per week. Your church has special services to help you remember. God Himself rested from all His work on the seventh day. Keep it holy---separated and distinct from all the rest of the week.
III. Miracles to Remember
1 Chr. 16:12
12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments or his mouth; (KJV)
God has done some very special things in your life that you know were not just happenstance, they were miracles from heaven, etched forever in your mind. He did that just for you and it is a memorial in your heart to help you press on when things look bleak and unpleasant.
IV. A Short Span of Time to Consider
Ps. 89:47
47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? (KJV)
(SRVA)
The Word tell us that we can expect 70 to 80 years of life here on earth at best.
Ps. 90:10
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (KJV)
(SRVA)
One can look round about him and easily see that this is true. A few live longer, but they are the exception. Each day that passes, we are reminded of the shortness of life and the seriousness of it.
V. Seek the Lord Early On.
Eccl. 12:1
1 ¶ Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; (KJV)
The best years anyone will ever live are the years they live for God. God advises us and we can talk to others whose testimonies prove the truth of these verses.
VI. Don't Forget those who are suffering for the cause of Christ.
Heb. 13:3
3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (KJV)
(SRVA)
We appreciate our freedom, but there is a stark reality in that not every christian is in liberty to enjoy what so many of us enjoy. There are countless believers around the world who are suffering right now for what we take for granted. Take a moment and pray for them, feeling their pain.
VII. Authority is from God
Heb. 13:7
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. (KJV)
(SRVA)
Do not take lightly the man of God who sincerely preaches to you the Holy Word. Every time He preaches or visits you or calls you up, it should be a memorial to you to know that God has someone looking out for your soul.
VII. Remember, He is Coming Back
Rev. 3:3
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (KJV)
(SRVA)
I trust that you have a cache of saved messages on your cell phone. Likewise, you better have a storage of messages in your heart that God personally sent your way. Those should be memorials of times you had to pray through again over a certain matter. Don't earase those too quickly. The Lord is coming back. Keep your memorials in proper perspective and it will be glorious; otherwise He will come back as a thief in the night, and you won't have a clue until it is too late.
