Ecclesiastes 12: 1 – 13
Let’s Hear It for The Old Folks
1 Remember now your Creator in the days of youryouth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “ I have no pleasure in them”: 2 While the sun and the light, the moon and the stars, are not darkened, and the clouds do not return after the rain; 3 In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men bow down; When the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows grow dim; 4 When the doors are shut in the streets, and the sound of grinding is low; When one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of music are brought low. 5 Also they are afraid of height, and of terrors in the way; When the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper is a burden, and desire fails. for man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets. 6 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. 7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. 8 “ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “ All is vanity.” 9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth. 11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. 12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh. 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
We have now come to the last chapter in our study of the book of Ecclesiastes. I do not know about you, but I have learned a few great things from our Precious Holy Spirit.
I think all of us at one time have pondered the possibility of being rich; having power; and having the opportunity of receiving everything you ever dreamed of. To teach us that this type of dream is really not what you might think it is, Our Holy Maker actually bestowed upon a man all these gifts and more. Yet, when you have studied the life of Solomon, I can’t see anyone in his or her right mind that would want to be like him.
Solomon started off a winner and ended his life as a loser. Let’s just take a look at how it all began.
After David died the Lord showed up Personally and conversed with Solomon Let us check out this conversation in the book of 1 Kings chapter 3, “ 1 Now Solomon made a treaty with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and married Pharaoh’s daughter; then he brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall all around Jerusalem. 2 Meanwhile the people sacrificed at the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the LORD until those days. 3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places.4 Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” 6 And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. 14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.” 15 Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.”
Our Lord Is so Gracious. Look at how He responds to Solomon’s request for wisdom. Yet, what is astonishing to me is that Solomon did not come up with this idea. He was told to do this by his dad, David. Scan through the book of Psalms and you will read numerous references from David to Solomon to ask God for wisdom. Let us just look at a few;
Psalm 37: 30, “The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.”
Psalm 49: 3, “My mouth shall speak wisdom, And the meditation of my heart shall give understanding.”
Psalm 51: 6, “Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 111:10, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His Commandments. His praise endures forever.”
Our Precious and Holy Father Is just looking for a reason to bless His own. In response to Solomon’s request for wisdom, our Holy Master grants him his request and throws in riches, long life, and peace. Dear Lord, if it is in Your Will, I’ll take the same, but help me not to end the same way as Solomon in turning away from You, my love, my life, and my God.
1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “ I have no pleasure in them”
To keep our lives on the right path and not turn out like Solomon, we need to remember our relationship with Jehovah Elyon – The Lord Most High. He Is our Father and our God.
The word ‘remember’ is the opposite of ‘forgetting’. Please note verse 13 which states, ‘keep His Commandments’. What does the fourth Commandment say? We find the answer in the book of Exodus chapter 20, “8 “ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
Our Holy Precious Master wants us to remember that He Is our Creator. He takes great interest in the fact that He wants us to remember that He Is the Creator of all things.
Please note the last part of verse one, ‘when you say, ‘I have no pleasure in them.’ We need to remember that this world is cursed. We are not settling in for a long winters nap. We are just travelers passing by on our way to live forever with our Wonderful Great God. If you haven’t noticed by now, life is hard. It is not a piece of cake. We have many lousy days.
2 While the sun and the light, the moon and the stars, are not darkened, and the clouds do not return after the rain
It is amazing to me on how frail we all are. I don’t care if you are an Olympic gold medalist. You can be fit and strong one day and then, wham! You got bad news.
Because of sin we also are on a journey of physically breaking down. We grow old.
Please note in verse 3, a storm, the day goes dark and the sun is hidden by the clouds. The moon also cannot be seen at night because the rain cannot clear the sky. It is describing the time of our lives which bring with it the sense of waning strength; when light is dulled; and hope, interest, and promise of a future is ended. You see the end coming closer now.
Because of our ancestor Adam and Eve’s sin, the earth has been cursed. We, like the world is growing old. Even our planet will face what we humans face because sin entered it. In the book of Revelation we read these judgments;
1. Seal Judgment – chapter 6, “12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon[f] became like blood. 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”.
2. Trumpet Judgment – chapter 8, “12 Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night. 13 And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”
3. Bowl Judgment – chapter 16 – “ 8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.”
3 In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men bow down; When the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows grow dim; 4 When the doors are shut in the streets, and the sound of grinding is low; When one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of music are brought low.
In verse 3 we begin to read about growing old. In a picturesque description Solomon skillfully describes the various physical problems we encounter. ‘3 In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men bow down.’ Refer to problem of losing control over our body movements. Our hands shake. We also have a hard time standing erect. We begin the process of hunching over or well described here as bowing low. Our legs cannot support our weight anymore.
‘When the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows grow dim; 4 When the doors are shut in the streets, and the sound of grinding is low;’ describes the problems we develop with our teeth. They begin to fall out and eating is difficult. We also being to say hello to the eye doctor as our vision begins to wane. Our eyes are the windows of our bodies and we need some strong Windex to see out them. The doors being closed refer to the fact that our hearing also becomes a problem. We have difficulty hearing things. If you stop and think for a moment, we are blessed by our Great God for Him allowing us to live at a time in history like today. Technological advances help us overcome a lot of these significant problems that other people in the past had to endure. Look at the vision problem that Isaac experienced as described in the book of Genesis chapter 27, that resulted in some significant problems for the Jewish people today.
1 Now it came to pass, when Isaac was old and his eyes were so dim that he could not see, that he called Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.”And he answered him, “Here I am.” 2 Then he said, “Behold now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death. 3 Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me. 4 And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.” 5 Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. 6 So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, 7 ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death.’ 8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. 9 Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. 10 Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.”
11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man. 12 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be a deceiver to him; and I shall bring a curse on myself and not a blessing.” 13 But his mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.” 14 And he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 Then she gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob. 18 So he went to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”
19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn; I have done just as you told me; please arise, sit and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.” 20 But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “Because the LORD your God brought it to me.” 21 Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.” 22 So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him. 24 Then he said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He said, “I am.” 25 He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, so that my soul may bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near now and kiss me, my son.” 27 And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said: “ Surely, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed. 28 Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, and let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be those who bless you!” 30 Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also had made savory food, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son’s game, that your soul may bless me.” 32 And his father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?” So he said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.” 33 Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him—and indeed he shall be blessed.” 34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me—me also, O my father!”
35 But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.” 36 And Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” 37 Then Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Indeed I have made him your master, and all his brethren I have given to him as servants; with grain and wine I have sustained him. What shall I do now for you, my son?” 38 And Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. 39 Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: “ Behold, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above. 40 By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.” 41 So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.” 42 And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran. 44 And stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away, 45 until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?” 46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”
When one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of music are brought low.
When you get older your sleeping pattern is thrown off. You need more naps and that is not for romance. [Please note the reference to ‘the desire fails’. You are totally exhausted and need the rest. If you are familiar with mathematics then you are familiar with the Bell Curve. Infants need to eat and sleep. Our lives and activities begin an upward progression to around 40 [ the top of the Bell curve] then the decline towards the end of our lives begin. You start off just eating and sleeping and that is how you end.
Verse 5 speaks not just of a fear of being on high places but more significantly speaks of the fear of losing your balance. You fear the possibility of missing a step and down you go. Usually some type of injury happens. You know the old familiar saying, ‘I’ve fallen and can’t get up.’
If you have ever seen an almond tree in spring then you know it is a flowering tree. Guess what color the blossoms are? Yep, white!
So, what does Solomon mean by the grasshopper? He was referring to a Karate Kid movie, ‘Listen, grasshopper.’ No, I am only kidding. With this entire depressing message I have to enlighten it up a little.
Again speaking of the aged, the grasshopper, which is a small light insect, is too much of a burden to carry.
In the bible we read in Psalm 90, “10 The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” You know what 70 is very long and then you have to meet your eternal destination. Where will it be – heaven or hell? Our Holy Kin, Lord, and Savior volunteered and gave His life for you and me. However you need to do something to receive God’s forgiveness.
Don’t just believe me but see what God says you have to do to be saved. We find out the way from the book of Romans chapter 10, “8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”(that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Now, what exactly is this saying. I would say that you know that Jesus Christ lived and died here on earth. Am I right? Well, then you are half way to being saved. The book of Romans says if you believe this and then confess this with your mouth, what will happen? You will be saved!
So, if you want forgiveness from our God and have not prayed to ask for His Salvation. If you are truly sincere and want this, then I invite you to join with me with this prayer. I ask you now to get on your knees and pray out loud this prayer to God.
‘Dear Heavenly Father, please receive my prayer. I know that Your Son, Jesus Christ came to earth and died for me. I know that He rose again from the dead and sits at your right hand. Please forgive me of my sins. Dear Jesus, please come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me Lord Jesus to live the rest of my life pleasing to You. I will pray from now on in Your Name. Amen.”
If you have prayed that prayer there is a party going on in Heaven right now. You don’t believe me? Look at what it says in the Gospel of Luke chapter 15, “7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.’ Sounds like a celebration to me, how about you?
When a man dies it is because the wheel which drew up the picture from the well of life breaks. As you know, gold and silver are precious metals. They represent the value of a man’s life. The silver cord is the spinal cord. The golden bowl is the brain. The picture shattered at the fountain is a heart attack.
7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. 8 “ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “ All is vanity.”
I do not know if you have ever thought about this or not is that we are spiritual beings. The only thing that keeps us anchored to this earth is the temporary dwelling places that our God has put us into. When we die we are freed. The spirit returns to our Holy God. To this realization Solomon responds that everything is worthless. In a way he is right. All earthly pursuits are meaningless apart from God, Himself. When we are stripped of God’s Spirit our bodies return to the dust. Stripped of God’s plan and purpose of our lives, all the things we have done are worthless. We read in the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 13 this, “12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
There are only three things that are worthwhile in our lives and they are faith, hope, and love. But then the Scripture goes on to say that love is the greatest. Why? Because when you die you no longer can use faith and hope. The end result is that ‘love’ is the only thing that we can take out of this world. Love never fails.
9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth.
In his concluding remarks Solomon sums up what he believes God has inspired him to do. As God has made him wise, he felt that he had a duty to teach us ‘knowledge’. It has been given to us here and through the book of Proverbs.
Solomon saw everything that he had penned as goads and nails. A goad was a sharp metal tip attached to a plow that was used to keep oxen from kicking. Solomon sees the goad as something that will spur us onward toward a well balance Christ like life and the reference to the nails refers to his truth being used as nails driven home in our minds to establish the truth of God. Like a goad a wise word might hurt but if applied to one’s life, will keep us moving in God’s path as the prophet Isaiah says to us in chapter 30, “18 Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him. 19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; You shall weep no more. He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He will answer you. 20 And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. 21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “ This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.”
I have this big problem with books. I refuse to throw or give away my books. But I agree with Solomon here, All the books I have read, there is only one really worthwhile and that is the Bible. It is God’s Word. I like to read things of history which fills in a lot of areas of the Bible, but if I could only have one book, give me the Bible.
Now before I close I want to just talk about verse 13, ‘fear God and keep His Commandments.’ Are we supposed to keep the 10 Commandments? I think you will find it interesting that the Commandments of our Precious Holy Adoni Yahweh are not all followed today. There are various reasons given for this sin. First of all you may yourself say that these are not for us today. They are just for the Jews. Really? Then I guess it is okay to kill or steal, or commit adultery. I hear your response, ‘Well no, we can’t do those sins.’ So, are we today suppose to pick and choose which ones we are to obey and which ones we are to reject as not being applicable to us?
Aha, got you thinking, didn’t I? I believe that you will receive a new understanding of God’s Commands not His Suggestions as we take some time to look at His Holy Word.
Another statement I heard is that we are New Testament saints so we do not have to follow the 10 Commandments. A verse that they like to use for this position is from the book of Romans chapter 6 verse 14, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” Now take a look again at this verse. Is it saying that you do not have to obey God’s Commandments?
What doe the Bible have to say about this. First of all let us jump back a few chapters to read the advice of the Apostle Paul. In chapter 3 of Romans we read this, “19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. 29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
The 10 Commandments were given to us by our Holy Supreme Adoni Yahweh, to show us our sinfulness. On our own we cannot keep these 10 Commandments. Therefore, our Righteous Sovereign Jehovah Elyon – The Lord Most High is Just to Judge us. Our Master and Lord Yeshua was the only One Who was able to keep all of God’s standards. Our Holy Precious King did not come to do away with the law but to fulfill the law as the book of Matthew chapter teaches us, ““Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”
By placing our entire lives and faith is the Holy Lamb of God enables us to be eternally forgiven for all our sins and He equips us to obey His Commandments as the book of Romans chapter 2 points out, “12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.”
Amen and again I say, Amen!
