“MOM” May 8, 2011
Proverbs 31:10-31
I was thinking the other day of all the things mom stands for and so I came up with the idea of the three letters that spell mom and five things they could stand for.
First M O M could stand for mind over matter because with moms if she sets her mind on it nothing else matters.
You kids are probably thinking, boy is that ever true it seems no matter what I want to do if mom has no in her mind it ain’t happening.
Now before we criticize mom we need to remember she says no for your own good because she knows the consequences so kids we need to respect that.
Remember honor thy father and mother is one of the top ten.
Second M O M could stand for masters of much because a mom needs to wear many hats.
She is the cook, the chauffeur, the doctor, the nurse, the veterinarian, the maid, the gardener, the financier, the mechanic, the police, and sometimes the judge and the jury.
Moms are always there for what ever need we have which allows them to be masters of medicine because we know moms kiss on a boo boo makes it all better.
Third M O M could stand for mover of mountains because sometimes she manages to do the impossible.
Jesus said in Matthew 17:20, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
How often have we seen mom get us things or do things for us that we had lost all hope of getting?
Fourth M O M could stand for manufacturing our maturity because she knew when to allow us to take on new responsibilities.
Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:11, When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Moms helped us to grow in a mature way.
And fifth M O M could stand for making of memories because as we grow we will always remember those special moments we spend with mom.
Our first day of school, our first date, the first time mom said, “I won’t tell your dad.”
Now I believe the word mom was a perfect way to spell it because what happens when we turn the word over?
Mom is described in one word. WOW
Now I also have five things that a Christian mother is or should be using WOW.
The first W O W is they are women of wonder because they spend a lifetime saying I wonder.
I know we have all heard these:
Sometimes I wonder why I do everything I do around here.
I wonder who would wait on you if I weren’t here?
Sometimes I wonder if you ever use your head for something besides keeping your ears apart.
But the one that makes it all worthwhile is when she says I wonder how I ever got along without you.
Second they are women of will because their will is to provide the best care they can for their family.
They give up sleep to stay up with you when your sick.
They give up doing something they would like to do so you get to do something you want to do.
They all of a sudden didn’t want their dessert because you wanted another and there wasn’t anymore.
They rearranged their schedule to make sure you had a fide to the ballgame or to a friend’s house.
They spend many hours helping you with homework or a special project for class.
They spend a lifetime teaching God’s Way because her will is for you to be a Christian.
Third they are women of wisdom because they were the child once and have the experience necessary to pass it on to their children.
King Solomon could have asked God for anything and he chose wisdom. After receiving wisdom everything else was given to him.
As much as moms pray for patience they know that wisdom will get it for them and then some.
Proverbs 10:31 says, The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
Fourth they are women of want because they want their children do so their best and be their best in everything.
They want them to have the things they need and not always what they want.
They want a better life for their children than they had growing up.
But more than anything they want you to be happy and they know that living a Christian life will do just that.
Because they taught us what Jesus preached in the sermon on the mount in the sixth chapter of Matthew, “See first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
And finally they are women of worship. Not just on Sunday but everyday because there are many ways in which we worship God.
They teach us to pray before meals and at bedtime.
They teach us to pray for each other.
They teach us to thank God for all the blessings we have.
They teach us to be good stewards.
And they taught us how to worship by example.
Moms, we salute you and thank you.
Happy Mothers Day, this prayer’s for you. Pray with me.
