Summary: Proverbs 29:18

Proverbs 29:18, ’Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]--blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he.’ -AMP

If we never have a vision, a goal, an ambition, something that we would like to accomplish. We will never get anywhere in life. When we fail to make proper plans for our future it will always seem bleak and hopeless and this is what this passage is telling us but in a way we never though of before. Likewise, spiritually we need to have an idea of where we want to go in our relationship with God.

Let us look at this verse one more time and hear what God would have to say to us through his Word. The word of the Lord is telling us about three very important facts concerning this portion of scripture. as we meditate on the subject, Having a Spiritual Vision.

This scripture is talking about firstly

1. Spiritual Darkness - if we do not have a revelation of who God is, then we live in ignorance or darkness. If we live in spiritual darkness then we live lives that has two essential traits missing

a. Faith -(Mk 4:40,’ He said to them, Why are you so timid and fearful? How is it that you have no faith (no firmly relying trust?) If we are in spiritual darkness we will never walk in faith and always doubt the word of the Lord.

b. Fruit - (Gal 5:22-23,’But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].) At a point of spiritual darkness, we can never bear the fruits of the spirit which is essential to our walk with God.

Spiritual Darkness robs us of a life of faith and bearing fruit. The scripture is not finished revealing the word of God as we also see it talks about

2. Spiritual Destitution - When plans are not made for the future we are in the place of poverty not just financially speaking but in every area of life. Staying in this state of destitution will always result in us living in two ways

c. Longing - (Ps 63:,’O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.) if God never takes the place of our longing we will always be

d. Lacking - (Jer 12:13,’ They have sown wheat but have reaped thorns; they have worn themselves out but without profit. And they shall be ashamed of your [lack of] harvests and revenues because of the fierce and glowing anger of the Lord.) no matter what happens financially we will still always lack.

Being in the state of Spiritual Destitution will always ensure that we are always longing for more and always lacking the things we truly desire. The scripture talks about spiritual darkness, destitution and finally it talks about

3. Spiritual Delight - Once we come into alignment with God and his word. Our lives are going to be transformed to the point of impossibility because of his favor upon our lives. We will always be

e. Blessed - (Isa 61:10,’ I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.) when you’re blessed by God you never lack anything. The reason why we are so blessed comes because we,

f. Believe - (Mk 9:23,’ And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes!) if we believe we will receive. If we have no vision we are going to perish.

If we continue living in spiritual darkness, we will always be faithless and fruitless. Our lives will be destitute, we will always be lacking and longing without satisfaction. If we delight in gaining spiritual gifts and delighting in them, we will always be blessed because we believe in him. Shall we now our heads in prayer.
