Acts 2; 1-4
1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Acts 3; 1-8
1One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
2Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!"
5So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."
7Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong.
8He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
Luke 3; 16
16John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
For a moment if your time I want to examine a few words and I plan on being
very brief. I’m glad everyone is out here but look at it like this Sis. Powell sung
the song When God is In the Building. So I would like to add to that “Expect the
Unexpected When God is in The Building” So if you would look up the word
expect you will find the meaning to anticipate as likely or deserving so I looked
up unexpected and it means coming without warning; not foreseen.
So let me break the meaning down so that we can better understand this.
Anticipate the unforeseen when our higher power is in the Presence.
When we examine Acts 2; 1-4 we find that this is about 50 days after Passover.
As we know Jesus was crucified at Passover time and he ascended 40 days after
his resurrection. The Holy Spirit 50 days after the resurrection and 10 days after
the ascension. We find in vs. 2 that and in both bibles I was using as references
used the word suddenly so I also looked it up and it says happening quickly without warning. But suddenly there came a sound from heaven and I can imagine hearing the thunder as of a rushing mighty wind. Now I want you all to just follow me in thought, imagine being there feeling kind of lost because your messiah, your king, your leader, your everything, your all in all, your prince of peace, your alpha and omega, and your lily of the valley leaving you all and
because of that we know that he was going to send us a comforter but we didn’t know when but I can imagine in my mind just being there on the Day of Pentecost every body on one accord just waiting just waiting on something from the Lord. And the scripture tells us that suddenly I like that suddenly that sound came that wind blew and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
According to the King James Version vs. 3 says and there appeared into them cloven tongues. Cloven meaning divided, split tongues like as of fire and it set upon each of them vs. 4 and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Examining verses 3-4 this was the fulfillment of the prophesy from John the Baptist which the Disciple Luke explained in Luke 3; 16. We know that John the Baptist was able to baptize with water and that symbolize the washing away of sins. But when
Jesus baptize he baptizes with fire which signifies that the Holy Spirit has come in. The Bible tells us that tongues symbolizes speech and the communication of the Gospel and the fire symbolize God’s purifying presence.
When I look back my mind tends to wonder about the song that Sis Powell sang this evening When God is in The Building for the songwriter said. When God is in the Building the sin-sick are healed let me just call the role for just a moment I can see Bro Paul at his Damascus experience how my God showed up and showed out. I see that he expected the unexpected when God was in the building. That ole songwriter then told us that When God is in the building the dead can be raised. Before I call on Lazarus not only is he referring to the physical dead but also the Spiritual death and especially the ones that are dead to Christ. But Imma call on Lazarus come here Lazarus and tell me your story cause I’m reminded of how your sisters sent for Jesus when you were sick and at the point of death But when God is in the building he looked out over the cemetery and said Lazarus come forth. Expect the Unexpected When God is in the Building.
The troubled can leave here trouble less Lord I want to call on a sinner woman in
Luke 7 we find that Jesus had entered the Pharisees house for dinner and upon his
entering there was a sinner woman who began to wash his feet with her tears and
dry them with her hair So then she took out her alabaster box and began to anoint
Jesus with oil for her faithfulness within her sin Jesus forgave her the troubled
leaving trouble less but I’m not done yet. Do you know about my girl Hannah
who all she wanted was a child. She was troubled by her husbands other wife
Peninnah but when God is in the Building the story tells us that she had her child
and gave him back to the Lord. I’m so glad to know that when God is in the
building all I can do is expect the unexpected.
You see trouble can be different in everyone’s life you can have trouble in your
finances, marriage, family, job, friends, cars, houses, calling y’all don’t hear me.
But I’m glad that when God is in the building I can leave trouble less.
That same ole song writer told me that the lame can be healed and I’m a witness
of that, Just a few weeks ago I witnessed a woman walk into church with a
walker and walked out without it. You see when God is present and your faith is
indeed strong without any doubt you can truly expect the unexpected. But
because we have bible scholars in here I have to recall the memory to Acts 3 we
find a lame man sitting at the gate when Peter and John came through he was
begging for money the story writer tells us that Peter & John both looked at him
and asked for his attention. He then looked at them expecting something Peter
replied Silver & Gold have I none but what I have I give unto you. Peter told the
man to get up and walk I’m here to tell you that the man got up and his ankles
and feet were stronger. Not only did he start walking but he started jumping up
and down praising God Lord have mercy. I’m so glad that Peter was anointed
and was filled with the Spirit.
But when it comes to life situations or when things happen we need to know how
to get in place to allow God to come in so many times we try to handle things on
our own instead of relying on God But I’ve learned that when God is in the
building those situations don’t even matter because I’m so glad that he has the
power to change every situation and every problem just expect the unexpected
when that light bill is due and you don’t know where the money is coming from
but remember that God is in the building when you come to church every Sunday
and it seems like your going is in vain it seems like no one else is there just hold
on and be strong because after while and by and by When God is in the Building
Expect the Unexpected.
