Laying Down The Water Pot
John 4:28-30 (King James Version) Pastor Ken Crow
28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
As we read the story in John Chapter 4 of the lady at the well it becomes evident that she had became in her past a victim of circumstance.
She had fallen prey to a world of where she had limited choices . In fact in those days being a woman she had very little to say about her course in life.
She had found herself time after time heartbroken. In a cycle that just seemed to keep repeating itself.
But today, here at the well this unmerciful cycle was about to be broken. She had met Jesus and her life was about to be set on a very different course.
1. Someone watching today is experiencing a cycle of heartbreak.
In fact you think God is punishing you for something that happened in the past.
I have a scripture for you this morning. If you have your bible underline this scripture.
If not write this scripture down.
Psalm 103:10-11 (King James Version)
10He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
Whoever I am talking to today is simply a victim of circumstance. You have been hit by a tidal wave in life and it has simply carried you and things have been beyond your control just like this Samarian woman at the well.
I have good news for you today . You are not watching by accident. Today is your day. Things are about to go from “out of control to Jesus in control”!
2. Jesus came bearing good news not condemnation.
Jesus did not start condemning the Samarian woman for her deeds of the past.
John 3:17 (King James Version)
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 10:10 (King James Version)
10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Jesus Christ today is only interested in your present situation and your future.
Jesus took time out of his journey to minister to this one lady . To offer her a brand new life .
Someone is in front of your television or computer right now and life has become so overwhelming you don’t know where to turn.
People have let you down over and over just like this Samarian woman. People will bring up every mistake you have ever made and use it on you! It is time to do what this Samarian woman done at this well that day. Her eyes for a few moments of time was not on man or people or circumstances but right now they were on Jesus!
When she looked at Jesus she seen love. When she looked upon Jesus she seen something she had never laid her eyes on , Hope!
I promise you today if we will just have that encounter with him everything will begin to look different, feel different, sound different because everything in heaven and earth has been given to him by the father!
And that includes what you are experiencing in life right now.
3. She left her water pot.
Her water pot is symbolic of her old life.
She had carried that thing around. Everyday it hindered her. Everyday it defined her!
But now she had a new definition!
Her definition was no longer this water bucket.
Some of are being defined by different things.
They used to when they seen the Samarian lady coming defined her by saying here comes the lady with the water pot.
What is it we are carrying that defines us?
It does not matter. We can trade our water pot in for a new definition!
She went running into town. A new creature in Christ!
2 Corinthians 5:17 (King James Version)
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
God Bless and Amen
