“Fill Err Up”
Luke 4:1-2
1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil.
“Lets Pray”
Look at you neighbor this morning and tell them its time to:
“Fill Err Up”
Let me ask you a question, Have you ever been driving in your car and run out of gas? Oh it’s a horrible feeling, You know how the drama plays out, your eyes are like laser beams on the gas needle, that has now moved precariously beyond the “E” and you are pleading with the car to make it just one more mile to next gas station, and then you hear a very unsettling sound…Silence. Your engine has cut off and you coast over to the side of the road and you have officially run out of gas! Let me ask you another question this morning. Have you ever run out of gas spiritually? Oh you know what I am talking about, Going to church out of a duty but not out of desire, I am talking about going through the motions, saying you’re a Christian but that’s as far as it goes, talking the talk but not necessarily walking the walk, praying occasionally, reading the word sometimes, giving once an while but never till it hurts. Have you ever found yourselves cruising around in Life with the needle of your Christian Gas Tank precariously beyond the “E”? Are you running on fumes this morning? Oh my friend Then I got a word for you today its time to “Fill Err Up” Its time to “Fill Err Up” look at you other neighbor and say ‘I may have pulled in on empty” “but I am leaving on full” hallelujah. You may have come today out of a spiritual obligation, you may have come today because that’s what Christians do on Sundays but I am here to tell you are going leave with a burning fire in your belly from which rivers of living water will come forth, Your leaving with some passion, you’re going to leave with some destiny, your going to leave with some purpose, you’re going to leave with some Spiritual Gas in your tank. Its time to “Fill Err Up”
Many Christians today find themselves trying to operate their vehicles half full or quarter full or dare I even say that many Christians are trying to operate as a child of God while their spiritual tanks are on empty, but Jesus never designed it to be that way.
In John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come “Jesus has come, Yahweh has come, the alpha and the omega has come, the great I am has come, the bright and morning star has come, the Lilly of the valley has come, the rose of Sharon has come, the prince of peace has come, the healer has come, the king of kings has come, the lord of lords has come, that “YOU” might have life, and that “YOU” might have it more abundantly.
Everyone say abundantly..
God never intended us to walk around with our spiritual tanks ½ full or ¼ full and he surely didn’t come to die on a cross for us so that we can go around running on spiritual fumes just waiting to run out of gas. Can I get an A-men! Christ has laid out the blue prints for an Abundant Life! Life to full! New Life! Life everlasting!
But the question is: how do we prepare ourselves for such a life? What do we have to do to in order to move ourselves from being just about out of spiritual gas and operating on empty to a season of Overflow? That’s a great question and we don’t have to look any further than our scripture text for the answer. “Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost” There it is my friends in order to live this Abundant Life we must be “Full Of The Holy Ghost” To operate in the atmosphere of Overflow we need to get baptized in the Holy Spirit. Education cant give it to you, money or status wont give it to you, cars and houses and toys wont do it for you, Solomon said it this way Vanity! its all Vanity! If you want to move out in the miraculous you need to Get Filled or in other words you need to “Fill Err Up” Become Full Of The Holy Ghost.
Lets talk for a minute about what it means to be Full. Here are a few definitions of what it means to be Full.
Containing as much or as many as is possible
Complete
Being at the highest or greatest degree
Possessing a rich or pronounced quality
Satisfied
When we are Full of the Holy Spirit we contain as much of God as is humanly possible, we are complete in Christ because of the Death burial and resurrection, we are at our highest and greatest degree because we are risen with Him, we possess the richest and most pronounced qualities, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, meekness, faith, known as the Fruit of the Spirit, and are souls are satisfied.
Who can satisfy your soul like Jesus? No one can. I am satisfied with Jesus.
When I think of being Full my mind always wants to gravitate towards the feeling I get after eating a thanksgiving dinner. How many people know what I am talking about. You have just ate a huge amount of Turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans and cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie and pecan pie as a matter of fact any pie you can get your hands on. And you know what’s next you find yourself sitting on the sofa so full you cant even move a muscle, you feel helpless and if there were a fire alarm you would burn with the building because you couldn’t get off that sofa if you wanted too. You’re so full you can’t move a muscle.
That’s the type of Full that God desires you to be. He wants you to be so full of the Holy Spirit that you cant move a muscle and you must depend solely upon Him. He wants you to be so full of the Holy Ghost that you have to surrender your will and your ability to his Filling. When you eat from the Buffet table of God its an all you can buffet. Seconds, thirds, fourths, and so on, Gods wants you so full of Himself that you are busting out of the seams with Christ, constant filling, not one time though the buffet line and that’s its no my friend when God does the filling its over and over and over and over a littler fuller each time, a little better each time, a little tastier each time thought the line, and the best part of the deal is that He picks up the check at the end and He says “Paid in Full”
Look at you neighbor and say “Fill Err Up”
The Holy Spirit is Fuel for the Christian. Let me say that again that’s very important “The Holy Spirit is Fuel For The Christian” Jesus knew this, before his time of testing before the 40 days and 40 nights of being tested and tempted in the wilderness he understood that he needed fuel to sustain him during His trials. Not gasoline, not butane, not fossil fuels not hydrogen, not gas, but the Fuel of The Holy Spirit.
1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil.
I want to talk with about three Key’s to being “ Full Of The Holy Ghost” The first Key is Purpose:
1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan,
You must understand that the Filling of the Holy Spirit is not some chance whim, or some lottery you might hit, or something you stumble upon, there is always Purpose behind the Filling. Jesus was baptized in the Holy Spirit in the Jordan River for a purpose. It was the start of His ministry, it was the purposeful act of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that allowed Christ to set destiny into motion. Destiny that would usher in the Church and God’s grace and salvation for all those who will believe in Jesus. It was for a purpose that he was filled with the Holy Ghost because He knew that there would be times of testing and temptation ahead. Let me ask you a question. What purpose does God have in store for you? He didn’t save you and fill you with the Holy Spirit so he could put you on a shelf or on some pew in some church as a trophy of His grace. He has a plan for your life.
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
God has a plan for your life and it involves being Full Of The Holy Spirit, His plan is to prosper you and to give you abundant life. His plan gives you hope and his plan gives you a future and His plan always gives birth to Your Purpose. But you must be full of the Holy Ghost. You need to ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Then Ask yourself what is your Purpose. I know you have a plan for me God and I know the plan is a good plan but what is my purpose God. What on earth have I been put here to do or whom have I been put here to reach? When God fills us with the Holy Spirit he puts inside each of us a purpose but its up to us to find out what that purpose is? What pulls on your heartstrings? Which group of people pulls on your heart? Which country does your heart cry out for? Begin to seek the Lord in Prayer about these Kingdom Matters. Get on God’s plan. Let Him Fill you and then watch how he pours purpose into your life. I have witnessed it over and over again in ministry. People who have worked their entire life towards a creating a successful career all of a sudden get saved and full of the Holy Ghost and then the Lord reveals His plan for their lives and He pours out some purpose in their lives and time after time they end up going in a totally opposite direction that they had worked their entire life to create. That’s overflow. That’s being full of the Holy Spirit.
The second key is Preparation.
And was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil.
You see God fills us with the Holy Spirit to share in His Purpose and then to prepare us for the testing and the temptation that is to come. Christ was filled with the Holy Spirit for a purpose to usher in God’s grace and salvation and for preparation for a season of testing and temptation. The Holy Spirit prepares us for the battle that is to come. Let me share this with you. If Jesus who was filled with the Holy Ghost could withstand 40 days and 40 nights of testing and temptation with no food or no water, Tempted tried with the Lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh and the pride of life but yet was found without sin, we should take rest in the fact that we are the Temples of the same Holy Spirit that lives inside of each one of us, and I am reminded
I Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Romans 8:31
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Its time to Fill Err Up church.
Be ye full of the Holy Ghost.
Purpose-Preparation- and finally in closing we come to the final Key and that is Proclamation.
Gods plan of being full of the Holy Ghost leads to Gods purpose, which leads to Gods preparation, which leads to our proclamation.
This is where we get our chance; it’s our turn now baby! This is where we get do to our part. You see Up to this point it’s been all about God and what he is doing for us but when we reach proclamation oh when we reach proclamation we get to start giving back to the Lord. We get to stand on the rooftops, and the mountaintops, and the street corners, and the work place, and we get to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We shall overcome him by the blood of the lamb and the Word of our Testimony. We have been quite for too long, we’ve been politically correct for too long, we’ve been all dressed up with no place to go or nothing to say for too long, we need a boldness we need a fire we need a passion shut up in our bones, we need to be full of the Holy Ghost, so much so that we need to be like Peter when he stood up on the day of Pentecost and everyone said those people are drunk on wine and there a bunch of nuts
3Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
A bold proclamation of the Lord Jesus Christ and three thousand we saved.
It's time for you to Fill Err Up...
