From Lodebar To The King’s Table II
Pastor Ken Crow
2 Samuel 9 (King James Version)
2 Samuel 9
1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?
2And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
3And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
4And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.
5Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
7And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
8And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
9Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
10Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
11Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.
12And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
13So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet.
1. Mephibosheth had been born into royalty. The son of Jonathan, the grandson of king Saul. He had known the life of living in the kingdom at a very high level. Just think about it . Mephiboseth had witnessed the inner workings of the kingdom. Was under the protection of the royal family. Living at that high level in the kingdom of his grandfather everything available in the kingdom was at his disposal. When we live at a high level in a kingdom with that close personal relationship with a king it gives us great authority. But . Mephibosheth not only had that relationship with the king but he was blood kin!
Someone tonight needs to declare themselves not only living in the kingdom but declare that once that blood of Jesus touched their heart that now they are blood kin ! Grafted in as a child of the king! Some of us need to pick up our authority in Jesus Christ and start living at a higher level!
1 John 3
1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:
2. Mephibosheth had eaten at the king’s table.
Can you just imagine how the table of a king was at meal time?
This what . Mephibosheth had became accustom to .
The finest of meats and the cream of the crops were appointed for the king’s table!
Nothing was with held.
I remember a sister who used to sing with the Light House Messengers who every concert sung a song called “ All that Heaven Holds” .
. Mephibosheth was used to everything that Saul and Jonathon was used to.
There are benefits when you are a child of the King!
Psalm 103:2 (King James Version)
2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Some of us tonight need to remember the benefits. Somewhere along the line we have forgotten what is on the table for a child of God who is blood bought through Jesus Christ!
Isaiah 53:5 (King James Version)
5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
That is what we find at the table of Jesus!
For Mephiboseth he remembered ! Wow once you have eaten at the king’s table!
And now in Lodebar scraping and rustling for crumbs!
Someone here tonight is in Lodebar! You remember the day you were saved. The days when you prayed and felt so close to Jesus. But now like Mephiboseth you are scraping for crumbs!
Crumbs will sustain life but life without prosperity.
Crumbs kept Mephiboseth alive but just barely!
He was in a very unpleasant place and it was beyond his own ability to come out!
3. It was not his fault he was there in Lodebar.
2 Samuel 4:4 (King James Version)
4And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth
Mephiboseth had been hurt and made lame by someone else.
One cannot fault the nurse for she had good intentions . She was trying to save his life.
Many, many out there today are suffering spiritually wounded and made lame by one who hurt them .
Hurt in church is the biggest excuse I hear for not serving God . In all probability they were hurt by someone who really intended to help them but something ran a foul.
The nurse never intended to drop Mephoiboseth! In fact she saved his life but in the process he was made lame.
But there is not a word about Mephiboseth becoming ill and bitter toward the nurse .
God sent me by to tell someone tonight that you have been hurt but not abandoned !
You feel the pain and the misery of Lodebar and deep down you know it is time to stop blaming the one who you feel like dropped you . Well I can tell you the Lord Jesus Christ never dropped you . He will never leave you nor forsake you! He sticketh closer than a brother . And tonight he knows exactly where you are at!
4. You can never come out on your own. It will take the Lord.
Mephiboseth was still royalty! He was the son of the blood brother of David!
Know matter where you are tonight in Lodebar if you have ever been a child of the king you are still royalty.
1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?
There was a covenant between David and Jonathan .
1 Samuel 18
1And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
Tonight if we are in Lodebar we have a covenant!
Tonight you may need to become part of that covenant .
Either way the King is sending for you right now!
5Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
God wants to bring you back to his table tonight.
Mephiboseth was carried to the house of King David.
Jesus Christ as the shepherd that he is desires tonight to pick you up and mend the hurt and place you in his kingdom.
Oh there is plenty of room at the table! And on that table is blessing beyond what we are able to even ask or think.
The most important thing at the table is eternal life with Jesus.
I feel real strongly tonight in my spirit someone is in Lodebar.
Come Home. Come to the place where you belong. Back in the arms of the king!
God Bless and Amen
