Jehovah Repheka (The Lord our Healer)
God heals when we obey His commandments
(Exo 15:26 NIV) He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."
Christians would like to think of God as the Healer. But this healing is not without conditions. In the verse above, which is the first instance that God revealed this Name to Moses, we see that God is the Healer. But only if we are careful to obey His commandments. If we do not do so, He withholds His healing because diseases are used as a means to discipline us when we sin.
Because healing is associated with holiness, asking God for healing is sometimes related to asking God for forgiveness.
(Psa 41:4 NIV) I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
God’s healing is not restricted to our physical bodies
(2 Ki 2:21-22 NIV) Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, "This is what the LORD says: 'I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.'" {22} And the water has remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.
(Jer 3:22 NIV) "Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding." "Yes, we will come to you, for you are the LORD our God.
God does not just heal our physical bodies; He can heal the many aspects of our life. In the verse above, God healed the water so that the land can be productive. Perhaps you need God to heal your business and make it profitable. Or you may need God to heal a broken relationship, with your spouse, your colleague, boss, etc.
God heals us when we cry out to Him
(2 Ki 20:5 NIV) "Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD.
(Psa 30:2 NIV) O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.
Some people wonder why God does not heal them. God will heal us if we earnestly cry out to Him for healing. Have we prayed enough for the healing we want from God?
Do not be like King Asa, who refused to seek help and healing from the Lord and suffered the consequences.
(2 Chr 16:12-13 NIV) In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians. {13} Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his fathers.
