How to Make a Visitor Leave Breathless Part 1
And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with difficult questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon which he told her not. And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built, and the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel; his cupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her (2Ch 9:1-4).
JERUSALEM - After the death of David, Solomon built the temple, a house for the name of the Lord, on Mount Moriah (1010 B.C.). He also greatly strengthened and adorned the city, and it became the great centre of all the civil and religious affairs of the nation.
Sheba undertook a journey to Jerusalem to convince herself of the truth of the report of Solomon:
Jerusalem – House of God
1) Heard of his Fame
Not the Name of God
Not the Glory of God
But belonging to the name of God
Wisdom - Biblical wisdom is that man should humble himself before God in reverence and worship, obedient to his commands.
2) Tested Him of his Fame
The Lord had planted himself so deep into Solomon that the Queen of Sheba had to come with riddles to put his wisdom through a test.
Riddle – Is a pointed saying which hints at the deeper truth and leave it to be guessed.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.
3) Saw his Fame
The house that he had built – The Excellence in the Sanctuary
The meat of the table – The Placing, Quality and Quantity
The Placing of his servants – Where the Greeters stood and how they responded to the Invitation of others
Attendance of the Ministers – The obedience
Their Apparel – Neatness, Cleanliness and Order
Nothing that was out of order From the Pulpit to the Pews
This was more than she had heard. The Queen of Sheba said, "Man, they told me and I couldn’t believe what they told me. But they didn’t tell me half the truth. The glory of this whole thing."
When she saw all of these things she was Breathless.
