“True Love”
Scripture Reading: Luke 10:25-37
Text: John 3:16 John 15:12-13
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Introduction:
There are three word in the Greek language for the word love. First there is the word (eros) which means to love, be in love with; to desire passionately. The second Greek word for love is (agape) which means to love, greet with affection; charity. The third Greek word is (philos) which means brotherly love, treat kindly.
The Greek word for love that I want us to look at this morning is the word agape. This is the word that is our text and scripture reading. This is the kind of love that Jesus said we are to have towards our neighbors.
Now, let us look at the story in our scripture reading. We see a man raped, robbed, and wounded left laying along the road side to die. Three men pasted by that way. Two were very religious men and other was just a Samaritan man. We see from this story that the Samaritan man show agape love or true love. Now, I ask you, which of the three men do you classify yourself to be like?
The first two men are what some would call false Christians. Jesus calls them hypocrites. They would be Christians as long as it does not inconvenience them. Because, inconvenience is the biggest reason for failing to be a Christian, I have my own thing I want to do and I’m not going to let God get in the way.
The third man shows us what a True Christian is to be like, what ever his neighbor needed he was willing to do and he saw all people as his neighbor. We as Christians should want to share with everyone what we have, no only our physical goods, but more important of spiritual goods.
Conclusion:
How do you treat your neighbors? Do you show them the True Love of God no matter how much they get under your skin? Are you willing to be the Christ in their life as is mentioned in John chapter fifteen verse thirteen?
In closing I would like us to sing the chorus “Lay Some Soul Upon My Heart.”
Lord lay some soul upon my heart
And love that soul through me
And may I always do my part
To win that soul for thee.
Do you have the compassion for the lost like you should have? If not I would like to invite you to join me around the alter for a time of pray.
