Binding the Strongman
Scripture: Revelation: 12:11
Introduction: When a child of God walks the spiritual path of life the devil tries to attack him. The devil is not bothered about the nonbelievers but he cannot stand a believer. Therefore he tries to attack him. Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
The devil
• He is the ruler of this world.
• He has authority.
• He has the powers of the dark.
• He has a spiritual force of evil.
So when the devil attacks you he attacks with his spiritual force of evil. Understand it is a big army against you. Therefore we got to bind the strongman to be successful in our lives.
Subject: Binding the Strongman
This morning we are going to see how we can face the devil that is coming against your life. I am going to teach you the 2-fold attack against the devil. You are going to go back victorious in Jesus’ name.
First of all we must understand we are on the winning side. There is no need to fear in this battle.
1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. Jesus defeated Satan and his forces on the cross of Calvary. We just got to exercise our faith and claim the victory that Jesus already won on the cross. The devil and his forces cannot defeat you but we have the power to defeat every forces of evil that is acting against you. Amen.
How can we bind the strongman? The key is in Revelation.
Revelation was written by John the apostle while exile in Patmos. It talks about the future of the church. Revelation chapter 12 talks about a warfare in heaven. This warfare is between God’s people (God, angels, and the church) versus the Satan and his army.
Revelation 12:7 7And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
See what happens. V8 8But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
Let us follow this warfare: Revelation 12:9-10 9The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. 10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
See the outcome of this warfare. Revelation 12:11 11They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
The tools that will be used in this warfare can be used by us now. That is why we have this word of God. Let us see how they overcame the devil.

Weapon used in the Heavenly Warfare.
1. The blood of the Lamb.
2. Word of their testimony.
The blood of the LAMB
We must have the blood of the lamb to defeat the devil. The blood of Jesus is a weapon that has never lost its power but we have not learnt to use it. The devil is afraid even when we start talking about it. Let the devil use whatever army he has against you but he cannot stand against the blood of Jesus. There is power in the blood of Jesus.
Today, I want you to cover yourself with the blood of Jesus. You can overcome your difficulties by the blood of Jesus.
What blood of Jesus does for us?
1. The Blood Gives Protection. Passover explain. God was supposed to bring the 10th plague on Egypt but God wanted to protect his children, the Israelites. God said you have to kill a lamb and put the blood on the top of the doorframes of the Israelite houses. See what happens.
Exodus 11:13 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
The blood of the lamb protected the Israelites from any harm. The blood of Jesus protects us.
2. The Blood Gives Healing. Isaiah 53:5 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
• Physical
• Emotional healing.
• Mental healing.
• Financial healing.
The blood of Jesus cannot dry up neither can it lose its power.
3. The Blood Gives Deliverance. Hebrews 2:14-15 14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil - 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
The blood gives us deliverance, freedom from sin and Satan.
Now, we have the blood of Jesus by faith. That is an external application by faith. We always say and apply the blood of Jesus. This is the first weapon.
Today I want to lead you to the second weapon used in this heavenly battle.

2. Word of the testimony.
When we think about testimony we think about our lives; the way we lead our lives and how God has helped us live successful Christian lives. But as I was meditating a little more about it the Lord led me to Isaiah 64:6. Isaiah 64:6 6all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. That means how much ever we live holy and whatever we do for Christ without God’s mercy it is all filthy rags, good for nothing. Therefore the testimony to fight the devil is not our lives.
Now see, Exodus 31:18 18 When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
In other words the stones in which the 10 commandments were inscribed by God were called the tablets of Testimony. Now, testimony is something which God gives. I want you to see where it was placed.
Now in the tabernacle there was something called the Ark of the Covenant where the Jews kept the 2 tablets of 10 commandments called as the tablets of Testimony.
Exodus 25:10-15 10 "Have them make a chest of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. 11 Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it. 12 Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. 13 Then make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the chest to carry it. 15 The poles are to remain in the rings of this ark; they are not to be removed. 16 Then put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you.
The ark was a symbol of the presence of God. God said put the testimony (tablets) in the Ark of the Covenant. The testimony was the Word of God in the presence of God.
1 Corinthians 3:16 16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? In the New Testament the presence of God lives in us. Now see what God says in Jeremiah. Jeremiah 31:33 "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” In other words the presence of God is in us like the Ark of the Covenant and like the tablets of the Word of God (10 commandments) in the Ark of the Covenant God’s laws or God’s testimony is written in our heart.
Ephesians 2:22 22And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. We are the temple of God. God lives in us. His testimony is in us. When we move God moves with us and we carry the presence of God with us.
Now, let us put the pieces together. Revelation 12:11 11They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. When the devil attacks us we are to face the devil with the blood of Jesus, which is an external application, and the testimony within us that is Christ in us. All this while we went into the spiritual battle knowing the power of the Blood but today we learnt that we not only have the blood but we are His testimony.
Conclusion: Child of God the victory belongs us, to you and to me. Do not be afraid of the devil. Let us learn to sprinkle the blood of Jesus by faith and God is with us as we are the living testimony of God. He is in you. Therefore, do not worry God will give you the victory today. Romans 8:31 If God is for us, who can be against us? The blood of Jesus gives us protection, Healing (physical, mental, emotional, & financial), deliverance and God’s testimony guides us. Therefore the victory is ours. Let’s pray.
