Many people in Samaria believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah after coming out to the well to hear Him. They imposed on Him to stay with them and to tell them more about God and His plans. He graciously stayed with them for two days answering many of the spiritual questions. What questions do you still have? Do you know how to get the answers you’re seeking? Can you handle the truth?
1. It was hard for people in Nazareth to acknowledge Christ Jesus
A. He passed through His home town of Nazareth on His way to Cana but didn’t do many miracles there because of the peoples unbelief.
B. His reception was very different when He came into Cana. Remember, many of the residents had been at Jerusalem during the Passover and had heard of His miracles and/or heard Him speak.
2. A Roman royal official hoped that Jesus had healing power
A. He had heard the reports of Jesus’ abilities from far away. Apparently his pain at the illness of his son was greater than his pride as a Roman ruler.
B. He traveled twenty miles on foot to implore Jesus to come up to Capernaum to heal his son.
3. Do you need healing?
A. Jesus knew that the nobleman’s faith wasn’t strong. He knew that he was grasping at straws. He had more hope than faith, but he humbled himself and came to Jesus. If we want our prayers answered we need to humble ourselves before God.
B. Jesus confronted his lack of faith.
C. Jesus understood his plight.
D. Jesus understands your plight too.
4. Jesus tells the nobleman to go home
A. Jesus words of consolation were spellbinding. He was sympathetic to this man’s request. Don’t you know that Jesus is sympathetic to your situation and He wants to help you?
B. He told the nobleman to go home. Do you find that strange? One of the key ingredients necessary to receive your blessing is obedience to God’s Word.
C. The nobleman believed what Jesus told him. He put his trust in Jesus and began his journey home.
5. The nobleman’s faith in Christ is rewarded
A. During the long walk home the nobleman had plenty of time for thought.
B. The average person of the day was able to walk about 18 miles in a day. Because he left in the afternoon, he probably camped along the way and arrived home the next day.
C. His servants came out to meet him and told him his son was healed.
D. When he heard it he asked them what hour it was when he was healed.
E. When they told him and it turned out to be in the same hour he had spoken with Jesus, he believed and by his testimony his entire household believed Jesus was indeed the Son of God.
Do you understand the truth revealed here? Anything is possible for God for those who believe (see Mark 9:23). Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” God revealed Himself in Christ. Will you trust Him with your faith and trust Him for the results in your life? Christ is the answer to your every question. Amen?
