The Eagle

The eagle is an example of how our Lord cares for us. The Eagle is majestic and soars high. It is proud and watchful. Our Lord is high and lifted up. He reigns in majesty and power. We are his children and He is always ready to protect and defend his own. The eagle’s nest is a place of safety for her young offspring. She protects them as she flutters over them.

Building the Nest

The Holy Spirit also moves and "broods" over the earth and its inhabitants. His Spirit is active and works to bring forth and create for his glory. We see Holy Spirit as moving over the face of the waters in the very beginning of creation.

(Gen. 1: 2)

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The statement “the earth was without form and void provides the settling for the creation narrative that follows. During the second and the third days. God filled the earth with living beings. The darkness that was upon the face of the deep was dispelled on the first day, when God created light.

God saw all that He had created and said, "It was good". He watches over us "as an eagle" cares for her little ones and teaches them in due season how to soar into the heavens.

God build this nest or this world. He also builds our personal nest. Some of us feel like everything that we have we did it on our own. That is where you are wrong. The bible says in Psalms 50; 7-11

Psalms: 50:7: Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.

Psalms: 50:8: I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

Psalms: 50:9: I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.

Psalms: 50:10: For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

Psalms: 50:11: I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.

We as people have got comfort and we feel like we can do and treat God any old type of way. We have got comfort in the nest that God create. Which bring me to my next point.

The Comfort of the Nest

The eagle builds her nest with all the comfort needed for the little eagles. She cares for them. She supplies there every need. Now I understand what David was talking about when he wrote: Psalms 23

Psalms: 23:1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalms: 23:2: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psalms: 23:3: He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalms: 23:4: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psalms: 23:5: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Psalms: 23:6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

In describing the Lord as a shepherd. David wrote out of his own experience, because he had spent his early years caring for sheep. Sheep are completely dependent on the shepherd for the provision, guidance, and protection.

As the Lord is the good shepherd, so we are his sheep not dumb, frightened, passive animals, but obedient followers wise enough to follow one who will lead us in the right places and in the right ways.

But when I look around today I have to stop and wonder what in the world is going on. This world is full of sin, disobedience, and false people. Which bring me to believe that we are too comfortable in this nest.

A. Comfortable in sin.

Leviticus 18: Forbidden Sexual Practices

B. Comfortable in. disobedience.

Genesis 2: 16-17 (Adam and Eve)

16. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Sometimes I hear people say Lord why am I going through this, Lord why must I deal with these people? I think God is stirring your nests, which bring me to my next point.

Stirring of the Nest

As the eagle stirs up her nest to incite her little ones to fly, the Lord also quickens and stirs our spirits to let Him arise in power. God led the Children of Israel through the wilderness one day at a time. They did not know the way, but they leaned on the one who knew the way.

Proverbs 3: 5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Sometimes in our life we have some decision to make, we sometimes feel like we cannot trust anybody. We have tried some of everything and some or everybody. But I come today to try and move you to try God.

Put your trust and you confidence in God. Bring your decisions to God in prayer, use the Bible as your guide, and then follow God leading.

Leaving the Nest

I am told the eagle carries her little ones until the day she releases them from her wings to soar into the air and fly on their own. She alone knows when they are ready to rise above the wind and take flight.

God also carries us and bears us up ’as on wings of eagles’. This statement is symbolic of the protection and care of our Lord. He will never let us go.

With God leading and carrying us, we can rise high above the storm clouds and be safe in His secret place. He will let us abide in this secret place, under his shadow, and be safe from the heat of battle and strong winds of war.

Psalms 119:105. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

To walk safely in the woods at night, we need a light in order to avoid tripping over tree roots or falling into holes, in this life we walk through a dark forest of evil.

But the bible can be our light to show us the way ahead so we won’t stumble as we walk. It reveals the entangling roots of false values and philosophies.

Closing

Some people get upset about a little trouble but I know what God is doing in my life, Every time a storm rock me from one side to other side.

Precious Lord take my hand.

Father I stretch my hand to thee.

What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and grief’s to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer.
