1. (THE GOOD) HE FORFEITED LUXORY FOR A LONGING

Ex. 2:1-11

Even from his earliest days, Moses felt uncomfortable swith his Egyptian surroundings…every wall and corridor was marked with a statue or icon to one of the thousands of false gods that the Egyptians worshiped.

As a toddler holding the hand of the Pharos as they walked, Moses would cringe as he would watch the Egyptian worshipers bow down at the Nile River and giving praise to its waters…

he was different from all the other men around him and it couldn’t be denied… he was not an Egyptian, he was a Hebrew and would even remember a bit of the Hebrew teachings taught to him by his birth mother Jochebed…

Yes he was a Hebrew and he then must consider the cost of such an admission… he would have to Forfeit this luxury lifestyle that he had grown accustomed to; he would no longer have the benefit of being known as the grandson of the Pharaoh.

The privileges of the elite would no longer be available to him, he might even have to start begging for his food…. the endless supply of wine would dry up and the soft clothing of royalty would be taken away…. BUT HE WOULD KNOW WHO HE WAS AND HE WOULD WEAR GARMENTS THAT FITTED HIM PROPERLY…

He was a Hebrew and now he must take his stand… regardless of the cost.

HEBREWS 11:23-29

Moses gave up a life of royalty and pleasure, to cast his lot with the Hebrew people with the people of God… he was not the only one who gave up privileges to fallow the God of Heaven…

Philippians 3:7-8

The Apostle Paul walked away from many benefits of his former life. Both of these men found something of far greater value; a relationship with God

Many men have NOT FOUND IT TO DIFFICULT to give up the Jewels of this earth, of this world for the “pearl of great Price” Jesus…

When presented with the choice which would you choose?

Is there anything in your life that is ill-fitted for the Christian life? If so, than you this opportunity tonight to surrender it to God. Give it up and watch Him move in your life.

2. (THE BAD) HE DID GOD’S WORK IN MAN’S WAY Ex. 2:11-15

Moses was fed up with the inhumane treatment that his fellow Hebrews were receiving from the Egyptians. They were considered lower than the animals that ran thru the streets of the city…

In his heart he knew the real truth. the only thing that separated him from the Hebrews in the slave quarters was his adoption into the royal family… yet what he was witnessing with his eyes was about to move this Hebrew into action…

The day finally came when he could take no more, he had witnessed an Egyptian overseer unmercifully beating one of the Hebrew slaves, and for no apparent reason… years of pent-up frustration and anger exploded in Moses and in one carnal act, he struck the Egyptian until he died…

He ran inside the safety of the palace, hoping no one would find out, after all who would tell, certainly not the slave who was spared… No one would ever know, yet Moses know that nothing was hidden from God’s eyes…

He know that the murder was an act of the flesh, he knew that he did not pray for God’s wisdom, he just acted on his own human emotion…

Moses tried to do God’s work in man’s way… and he was not the only one who ever did this…

ISAIAH 30:1-2 (EXPOUND)

Destruction is certain for those who look to Egypt for help, trusting their calvary and chariots instead of looking to the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. Isa. 31:1

Are you right now trying to do God’s work in mans way?

Prov. 3:5-6

You will only meet with failure if you are…seek God on His ways to accomplish His will in your life…

3. (THE HOLY) HE STOOD ON HOLY GROUND (THE HOLY) Ex. 3:1-9

Moses was alone on the mountain, with only his father in-laws sheep to keep him company, when all of a sudden he witnessed something that his eyes could not believe. The bush, that moments ago had just been normal, burst into flames, yet it was not consumed…

as soon as he saw this he knew that something supernatural was happening and he determined to investigate it further… as he moves in closer, he hears the voice of Jehovah speaking to him from the blaze…

the voice commanded him to remove his sandles from his feet for the place he was standing was holy ground… Moses knew that there was nothing special about the soil on which he stood , but it was the presence of God that made the place Holy…

Moses fell face down before the Lord and worshiped. this was the first time Moses had ever witnessed the glory of God, but it would not be the last… Moses would learn that the presence of his Creator always brought about change in his personal life…

Every time that Moses experienced the Holiness of God, something in his own wicked heart would be revealed and he would be faced with his own human frailties…

Job 42:5-6

Joshua 5:13-15

Isaiah 6:1-8

Moses received self-revelation in God’s presence, as did Job, Joshua and Isaiah and many others in the Bible. There is just something awesome about the presence of God that causes the human heart to break in repentance and the body to kneel in homage of the Lord…

As Christians today, we may not see the Lord in a burning bush or as an Angel with a flaming sword, but we can experience His glory in other ways.

But either way the presence of the Almighty should always provoke us to the same response: humility, repentance and worship… you are on Holy ground tonight….
