He Works Where I Am At
Genesis: 37: 12-21
12 And his brethren went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.
13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.
17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.
I have entitled this today: “He Works Where I Am At”
Joseph has just told his family about the dreams that he had.
His brothers already hated him, but now they probably hated him even more.
Israel, in our opening text, sends Joseph to his brothers who are feeding the flock in Shechem.
Joseph said in verse 13, here am I, in other words he was a willing vessel to do what ever his father wanted him to do.
The short phrase “here am I” foreshadows the statement of Christ.
Jacob said to Joseph, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again.
What this tells me is that Jacob had little understanding of the degree of hatred that Joseph’s brothers had toward him.
Genesis 37:15-17
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.
17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
They were supposed to be at Shechem but ended up in Dothem.
Genesis 37:18
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
They considered Joseph a tattletale and that he would do anything he could do to make them look bad in their father’s eyes.
So now they see Joseph afar off and they were plotting to kill him.
Satan wants to kill off the dreamer because he knows that the dreams are from God and he does not want these dreams to come to pass.
The thief comes but to steal, kill and destroy, but God is in control.
Genesis 37:19
19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
Little did they realize that these dreams would come to pass exactly according to their portrayal, exactly how they were spoken.
Genesis 37:20
20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
Satan and his imps will do anything they can do to kill a God given dream, a God given dream can be a destiny and in this case that is exactly what it was.
Joseph’s brothers had decided to kill him and throw him into a pit.
Genesis 37: 21-23
21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.
22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;
Reuben was the first born; this meant that when Jacob died he would receive a double portion of the inheritance.
The birth right had been given to Joseph so Reuben would had more to gain from Josephs death than anyone.
Reuben’s heart was not totally hardened.
Reuben told them to shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that was in the wilderness.
He had intended to rescue Joseph and give him back to his father.
When Joseph was come unto his brothers they stripped Joseph of his coat of many colors.
The flesh hates the spirit, the latter was a type that the coat was, and they took the coat but could not take the anointing.
Genesis 37:24
24. And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
When we look at Joseph in the pit and in prison, and then look at him afterwards as ruler over all the land of Egypt, we see a difference between the thoughts of God and the thoughts of man.
Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Joseph loved God and was called according to His purpose.
God was going to work through this devastation that had come upon him.
He works where I am at!
God works where you are at, don’t get discouraged because of what you see, stay focused on God and He will bring you out of this valley that you are going through.
I have entitled this today: “He Works Where I Am At”
Dream 4-27-09
I dreamed that I was at Smitty’s. I saw Benny Hinn walk through the door. He sat down at the table. The bartender told him how she had seen his program that day. She said that she saw the Miracle God performed through him on a woman that was in the service. He smiled. I walked over to Benny and I told him about Kim in 2004, how God performed a miracle for her. I was also telling him some of my other dreams. Benny then got up and went over to the pin ball machine and started working on it.
Interpretation
He Works Where I Am At
Smitty’s represents the world that needs help, whether we know it or not they have heard about God, and they need to hear.
When I was in the world, God was working on me where I was and I needed a miracle and God gave me my miracle.
The world has seen the miracles that have been worked in our lives. Keep living for Jesus, He is all that matters.
We need to work for the Lord!
Joseph was thrown into the pit where there was no water.
Even though it looked hopeless, Joseph never lost hope in God.
He knew that with God all things were possible.
He knew that God was in control and God, no matter what, was going to work this out.
Satan is a dream thief and he will try to still your God given dreams, your God given Destiny.
He can’t if you don’t let him!
God is present even in your worst circumstances.
Ro 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Isa 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
What are you going through today? He works where you are at.
He is your ever present help in your day of trouble.
Even though it looks hopeless, understand that God has your back.
God had Josephs’ back and He was controlling his Destiny because he was staying focused on Him.
He works where you’re at and He will perform a Miracle for you!
You can do a miracle…Jesus you can do a miracle.
He works where you are at!
Where are you at?
Do you believe that God can help you right now?
Psalm 40:1-5
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
I waited in the Hebrew means (in waiting, I waited)
Just like Joseph in waiting, he waited.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Just like Joseph!
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Just like Joseph!
Psalm 40:5
5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Closing
He Works Where I Am At
He worked where Joseph was and He will do the same for us!
Joseph while waiting waited, even in the pit, even in prison, but God showed up!
God is never early, never late, but just in time!
