Real Christianity is not boring. Acts 14
We can experience a great spiritual adventure…
I. When we exercise great spiritual habits
Paul and Barnabas go to church – when it is good and bad. 14:1-7
1. We all have habits. Some good, many bad.
a. Habits will determine our future.
b. Church should not be an afterthought
c. What happens here could determine the outcome of your whole week, or life.
d. My attitude towards church is also my attitude towards you…
2. Roller Coasters: Some people live in cycles – they get motivated for a while until they get bored and need something more exciting.
a. The reason they get bored is they are not living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
b. You cannot live your life on a roller coaster…get off before you get sick!
3. Are you spiritually bored? What are your spiritual habits?
II. When we show great faith A crippled is healed 14:1-10
a. They can see his faith. “He had faith to be made well.” 9
b. What does faith look like?
c. Can people see your faith? Or do you look bored?
d. Illus: Man falls off window while Peter sleeps.
III. When we face great opposition: Paul gets stoned 14:19-23
Illus: Getting knocked out.
a. They thought he was dead! But he rose up! V. 20
b. Has anyone ever thought you were dead?
c. If we really live for God, we will face some danger. v. 22
d. We have this need for excitement when we live boring spiritual lives.
e. Some people are looking for excitement in things that could really will kill them.
IV. When we have a great vision beyond our “world.” 14:24-28
a. Would you like to see the world? Be a missionary!
b. It’s a big world out there!
c. Start thinking beyond your small world.
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." Is 40:21-22
If we are a bored with God, we aren’t close enough to the action.
We can live an average spiritual life that is boring and helps no one, or we can get close to the fire and live a spiritual adventure!
