Acts 2:36-41—““Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord & Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified.” Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, & said to Peter & the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent, & let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; & you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. “For the promise is for you & your children, & for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.” And with many other words he solemnly testified & kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” So then, those who had received his word were baptized; & there were added that day about three thousand souls.”

Php. 2:3-4—“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

One’s ASPIRATIONS(:11-12)

Explanation:(:11-12) Ambition/Aim/Existence

:11—“that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, & to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,”

“Aspire/Study/Ambition”—????????????—To be fond of honor—To be actuated by love of honor—From a love of honor to strive to bring something to pass; To be ambitious; To strive earnestly, make it one’s aim.

“Mind/Do/Attend to”—??????—To exercise, practise, to be busy with, carry on—To undertake, to do; To accomplish, perform—To commit, perpetrate; To manage public affairs, transact public business—To exact tribute, revenue, debts; To act.

“Outsiders”—???—Without or out of doors.

“Not be in any need”—Do not become a burden to anyone needlessly.

2Thess. 3:7-16—“For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor & hardship we kept working night & day so that we might not be a burden to any of you; not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, that you might follow our example. For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone will not work, neither let him eat. For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. Now such persons we command & exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion & eat their own bread. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good. And if anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that man & do not associate with him, so that he may be put to shame. And yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!”

Argumentation:

Prov. 14:30—“A tranquil heart is life to the body, But passion is rottenness to the bones.”

1Tim. 2:1-4—“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties & prayers, petitions & thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings & all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil & quiet life in all godliness & dignity. This is good & acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved & to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
