What is and how do we do the Will of God?

I have said many times over the past 50 years of International Ministry to God’s people when asked, "What is the Will of God for me? and how can I know it and do it? I have said that in a nutshell that the Will of God is the Word of God and the Word of God is the Will of God. You cannot do the Will of God without doing what the Word says. Then it brings us to the point that we must then study, mediate and do the Word of God. In this sermon outline we list 15 of the directions that the Word gives us if we are to do the Will of God for our lives. If one day we stand before Him and hear Him say well done it will be because we did His Will, which is His Word.

1. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

A. This is the most important as you must be ’Born again’ to be part of the family of God.

2. Be witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

A. God wants us to tell others what He has done for us.

B. If I am a Christian, I am not set on saving my own skin, but on seeing that the salvation of God comes through me to others, and the great way is by intercession. -- Oswald Chambers,

3. Be loving to everyone.

(James 2:8 KJV) If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

(Mat 22:38 KJV) This is the first and great commandment. (Mat 22:39 KJV) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Mat 22:40 KJV) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

A. Love is God’s way, because He is love. It is not just the doing, succeeding, making our goals, or getting it done, but it truly loving God and people as we minister. This is the will of God.

B. When we love and do good we reflect God in our lives to the world.

4. Belong to a Local Church.

1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many.

A. We are part of the family of God. We need to have fellowship in the local church.

B. One of the reasons God wants us to assemble ourselves together is to practice our faith. I remember in sports we had to practice. We do the same in church. If we cannot love God and our fellow Christians in the church, we will not be able to do it in the world.

C. No matter how much the church wants to reach out, growth will not happen if the building and the people fail to say, "Welcome!"

5. Bring souls to Christ.

Mark 16:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

A. Soul winning is the nearest and dearest thing to the heart of God

B. If you want to please God, bring others to Jesus.

6. Bless others as you would be blessed.

Matthew 5:44 (KJV) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

A. Doing the Will of God is not always easy. However, the world can see Jesus in you when you bless and not curse.

B. You have never really lived until you’ve done something for somebody who can never repay you.

7. Blessed with God’s Plan for our life.

Mark 3:35 (KJV) For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

A. To follow God’s plan for our life means doing His Will and obeying His Word.

8. Be prosperous in God

3 John 1:2 (KJV) Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

A. It is God’s Will for you to have all you needs supplied. Philippians 4:19 (KJV) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

9. Be delivered from anything and everything that binds us.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 (NKJV) For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;

A. It is the Word and the Will of God that makes us free. Jesus said you would know the truth and it would set you free.

B. If we follow Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1. We will not only be delivered but we would be doing the perfect will of God.

10. Bless God with our speech and lives.

James 3:9 (KJV) Therewith bless we God, even the Father;.....

Psalms 103:1-2 (KJV) 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

A. We need to shine for Jesus.

1. We may be the only Gospel people read and hear.

2.

11. Be cleansed from all sin and unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 (KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

A. We need to wall in the light daily and if we do so we wall in His Word and Will.

12. Be led by the Holy Spirit of God.

Romans 8:14 (KJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

A. God does not push us. He leads us.

B. The Holy Spirit stands at every cross road of the way, pointing the right direction.

13. Be able to handle whatever we face.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

A. When we walk in His Will and Do His Word we will not only overcome temptations but there will be less of them.

14. Be thankful in everything.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

A. If there was ever an ’UNTHANKFUL’ age it is today. Let us be children of the King.

15. Bring your tithes and offerings into God’s Storehouse.

1 Corinthians 16:2 (KJV) Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

A. I saved this one for last.

B. I know if God get our money, He will get us.

C. Giving to God is not only His Will but it should bring joy to us.

D. God is a giver, He gave His Son. Let us imitate Him.

E. The quantity of money that one gives is of little importance. What is important is what one gives. If it is a part of one’s income, then this is not righteousness, goodness, and good faith. If it is capital that one gives, then everything is in order. John Howard Yoder

F. First, give yourself to God. You may be sure he’ll look after what is his.
