INTRODUCTION:
REVIVE [Heb chayah, khaw-yaw’]: a prim. root; to live; keep or make alive; give or promise life; recover, repair, or restore to life.
I. A REAL REVIVAL WILL MOTIVATE YOU IN YOUR PRAYER LIFE
Psalms 80:18 Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
Application: Prayerlessness will eventually cost you your relationship with God.
Psalms 32:3,4 When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer.
Application: The Psalmist is writing about a point in time when he cut himself off from communication with God. His reason for doing so was his refusal to repent of an adulterous affair. What keeps you from talking to God? Eventually the Psalmist did repent, come back, and opened the lines of communication with God:
Psalms 32:5-6 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.
II. A REAL REVIVAL WILL GIVE YOU A HUNGER FOR GOD’S WORD
Psalms 143:10,11 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. Revive me, O LORD, for Your name’s sake! For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
Psalms 119:20 My soul breaks with longing for Your judgments at all times.
Romans 10:17 (NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Application: God’s Word is the believer’s only source of soul nourishment. It is the only means by which a person can live holy life.
Psalms 119:9-11 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!
III. A REAL REVIVAL WILL RESTORE THE LIVING WATER’S FLOW IN YOUR LIFE
Psalms 119:25 My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.
Isaiah 5:13 Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.
Application: God never intended for you spiritual life to be dry and uneventful.
Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Isaiah 35:3,5-7a Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. 5.Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6.Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. 7a.The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water;
IV. A REAL REVIVAL WILL CHANGE YOUR PRIORITIES
Psalms 119:37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.
Isaiah 55:6-8 Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD.
V. A REAL REVIVAL WILL GIVE YOU REASON TO WORSHIP GOD
Psalms 85:6 Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?
Psalms 51:10-12,15 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
15. O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
VI. A REAL REVIVAL WILL CAUSE YOU LIVE THE WAY YOUR KNOW TO LIVE
Psalms 119:88 Revive me according to Your loving kindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.
Jeremiah 7:23 "But this is what I commanded them, saying, ’Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’
VII. A REAL REVIVAL WILL GIVE YOU THE PEACE YOU LONG FOR IN YOUR LIFE
Psalms 119:107 I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.
Isaiah 48:17,18 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
