Jesus - the living Bread, the bread of life

John 6:51
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
John 6:32-35. 47-51
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Eternal Life through the bread of life
John 6:47-51
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Disciples asked Jesus how to pray
He taught them theses words
"Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven"
These next words, remember Who he is talking about.
Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Luke 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
Jesus is not only talking about our daily food to sustain us, he is also showing us that we need to take him, the bread of life - daily.
We must be full in Christ
Psalms 119:57 Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words.
1. Matthew 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
2. Luke 4:4
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Lets look at that again. He continues after give us our daily Jesus.
Matthew 6:11 "Give us this day our daily bread."
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Have you ever heard the saying - you are what you eat?
If Jesus is our Bread of Life, and we are what we eat.
Then, we should be like Jesus.
And Jesus, while dying on the Cross for our sins, said.
Luke 23:34
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do
Just as God Forgives, we are also to forgive others.
We LOVE because God first loved us.
1 John 4:19
We love him, because he first loved us
So, We are to FORGIVE because God first forgave us.
And if we are truly what we eat, then we must also take into consideration the words of Jesus
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Take up your cross daily, and follow Christ.
Take your daily bread, follow Christ
Make the choice daily to do what the LORD wants us to do. To be obedient to him, and live for him, and as he showed us to live.
But I can’t. There are too many things in my past
NEW YEARS RESOLUTION?
Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Forget those things which are behind you. Press on reaching forward, toward the mark of the prize, by taking the daily bread, our daily portion of Jesus. Head to the goal of Christ. Living for him, living by him, living like him, living as he did.
As we prepare for communion today, let us understand the meaning of the Bread of Life. That we are to take it, Jesus, Daily. We are to have the mind of Christ - Daily. We must love him and know him, and ‘report to him’ daily.
Every day, we are to choose him.
Choose righteousness, choosing what is right.
Choose love, choosing to love the LORD with all our mind, soul and strength.
Choosing JESUS, our savior.
Choosing to forgive others, no matter what.
Choosing to love others, as Christ loves us.
Choosing to follow Jesus, by taking up our cross, our burdens, our situations, and following him. Daily
Give us this day, our Daily Bread. Give us this day our daily portion of Jesus.
Amen.
Matthew 26:26-28
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
