Genesis 4:25-26 (NKJV)
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed."
26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
God is a separator. He has been a Separator since the beginning of time itself.
In Gen. 1 we read where He separated the heavens from the earth. Then He separated the night from the day. Then He separated the waters from the dry land. Then He separated the sea life from the land life. And then in His final act of creation He separated mankind from all other creatures. He loves mankind with an everlasting love, a love that has been described as being deeper than the ocean and wider than the universe. He separated them from all other creatures so that He might fellowship with them and they might worship and praise Him. They were created perfect and sinless and were the apple of His eye. But one day mankind sinned against their Creator and in doing so created a separation themselves. God, who is holy, could no longer fellowship with the love of His heart. Their sin separated them from the land of Eden that He had given them and placed them into a hostile environment, an environment that came about because of their rebellion against God.
And then as mankind began to populate the earth, another separation begins to take place. Not only has man separated himself from God but now man becomes separated from one another. Able is separated. Seth is separated. Enosh is separated. And Enoch is separated. Methuselah is separated. Noah is separated. Abraham is separated. Isaac is separated. Jacob is separated. There was a difference between these men and the rest of humanity. You see the world had become a dark place. The shadows of wickedness, like black stormy clouds, were smothering out the rays of the glory of God. The serpent who had deceived Adam and Eve was basking in his victory as mankind, who once walked in the light of God, now stumbled through the darkness of evil. But these men, who became separated, decided to go back to the roots of humanity. It was not that they were separating themselves, they were just going back to what they were created to do and that was to walk with God. For the scripture says that when Seth was born and then Enosh…
Genesis 4:25-26 (NKJV)
26 … Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
When you break these words down into the original language it gives a much better picture of what began to take place.
You have to remember that the earth was full of wickedness. It was covered in darkness and evil, demonic oppression. satanic worship was prevalent and everyone was doing their own thing. It was no longer the paradise that God had originally created but had become a foul and an unpleasant place to live. I can imagine in those days the evil oppression was so heavy that it covered the heavens like a thick blanket smothering out the faintest cry for help. The light of God was just a memory. The stories told of Adam and Eve walking with the Creator had now become nothing more than a fantasy, a dream of long ago. Praise and worship unto Jehovah had been silenced. That is until Seth was born. You see Seth was God’s replacement for the righteous Abel. Cain had killed Abel out of jealousy. Cain wanted to worship God in his own way and Abel was a constant reminder to him that there’s only one way to worship God and that’s by giving Him your best. So instead of watching and learning Cain gives in to his emotions and slays his brother. But in the midst of the darkness God raises up someone who will shine a light. In the midst of silenced praise He raises up someone who will no longer be silent. You see when Seth was born into the world, unbeknownst to him, he would be the line that Enoch would be born through. He didn’t know it, but he would be the line that Noah would be born through. He didn’t realize it but he would be the line that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be born through.
He didn’t realize it but his family tree would produce the great nation of Israel and out of that nation would come King David, Elijah and Elisha, Jeremiah and Isaiah and all of the prophets of old. It would be his family tree that would give us the stories of the Red Sea and the fiery furnace, the stories of David and goliath, the three Hebrew children and Jonah and the well. His family line would produce some of the greatest men the world has ever known like Samson who slew a thousand men with his bare hands and Gideon who led a small band of 300 soldiers against an army of several thousand. But most of all out of his family line there would come One called Messiah, the Prince of Peace, The Healer, The Son of God, Emmanuel, Jesus the Christ who would bruise the serpents head.
The question is… how did Seth do it? How did he stand up to the pressure of his day? How did he live a life dedicated to the Lord when no one else in the world was living it? How did he defeat the serpent when all others had bowed down to him? The answer is found in these few words…Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
(Original language) Men began – they began to… bore through… , i.e. (by implication) to wound, to dissolve; to break, to begin (as if by an “opening wedge”);
… to bore through simply means to make a hole in something. They began to make a hole in the darkness.
They were determined that the evil that was against them was not greater than the determination that was within them. Seth grew up not only hearing the stories of the Garden of Eden, he believed them. He believed that if God once walked with man, God would walk with man again. He believed that if God once fellowshipped with man, God would fellowship with man once again. Seth began to bore through the oppression by calling on the name of the Lord, he began to bore through the darkness by calling on the name of the Lord, he began to bore through the ridicule by calling on the name of the Lord, he began to bore through the temptation by calling on the name of the Lord, he was so focused on what he knew was right that all of the wrong in the world around him could not deter nor prevent him from accomplishing his goal of worshipping the true and living God and he did it by calling on the name of the Lord…

Chapter 10 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
What does it mean to call on the name of the Lord… it simply means to proclaim His name. To announce it publically. To declare it to those around you. To make it known. To broadcast it. To decree it. To state it. In other words… Seth would have said… that serpent is not God, the Lord He is God. Seth would have said… satan is not to be worshipped, the Lord He is to be worshipped. And as he began to proclaim the name of the Lord, the darkness began to give way. If you want to dispel darkness from around you then you must proclaim the name of the Lord. If you want to wound the enemy then you must proclaim the name of the Lord.
If you want to break chains of bondage then you must proclaim the name of the Lord. If you’ve been walking in oppression and you want to be free then you must begin to proclaim the name of the Lord. And then don’t give up and don’t give in until you bore through the darkness and the light of Jesus Christ begins to shine in your life once again.
Seth separated himself from the normal. He didn’t follow after the crowd.
There was a hunger inside of Seth and he knew that it could only be satisfied by going after God.
