You can limit God. 2 Kings 13:14-21 (AMP)
14 Now Elisha [previously] had become ill of the illness of which he died. And Jehoash king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen of it!
15 And Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took bow and arrows.
16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put your hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it, and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
17 And he said, Open the window to the east. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria. For you shall smite the Syrians in Aphek till you have destroyed them.
18 Then he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, Strike on the ground. And he struck three times and stopped.
19 And the man of God was angry with him and said, You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had destroyed it. But now you shall strike Syria down only three times.
20 Elisha died, and they buried him. Bands of the Moabites invaded the land in the spring of the next year.
21 As a man was being buried [on an open bier], such a band was seen coming; and the man was cast into Elisha’s grave. And when the man being let down touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
Today we are going to look to this Old Testament passage and see what a Christian can do to do limit God from blessing them. We are the limitation of God, God wants to bless us.
1. Elisha was sick and about die.
Every one will die and the death comes in different ways. Elijah received rapture but Elisha got sickness to exit from the planet earth.
2. King Jehoash came to see him.
After a long time probably about 50 years of gap between the
Mentioning of Elisha’s ministry.
3. King called him the chariot and horsemen of Israel.
You are the protection of the city and nation. It is not the F16 and fighter jets that protect us, it is not the shield of man or technology protect the land, it is you and me that protect the land. Any God fearing leaders knows that they always recognize that even in public and request the prayer of the church
Even your bones carry anointing – your cloths, your handkerchief, your shadow, your presence, your hand, your word.
His ancestor called him that one who poured water on the hand of Elijah.
How do you see the servants of God?
2 king 6:17, - at the time of attack.
2 king 7:6 – at the time of famine.
4. Get a bow and some arrows in your hand
Put on the armor of God. A king must have the armor/weapon with him.
You need a shield, you need the sward, you need the arrows, and you need the bow.
There was a time the land did not have blacksmith to sharpen the weapon
1 Sam. 13:19-22 – could not find a blacksmith in the country
(who can sharpen the sward and they went to philistines to sharpen the sward)
There was a time only king and king Saul and Jonathan only carry sward- no one had a sward.
5. Open the window – have a vision
When you open the window –
A. Protection-You need to see the protection of God, Daniel opens the window to see the protection of God
B. Place of the Enemy- You need to see the enemy also so you can analyze the situation.
C. Plan of the enemy -.Thief come to steal and to destroy.
Balaam came form this region, the Aram are the people who dwell on the highland area.
At the time of your spiritual high situation enemy is there to attack us. After a 40 day fasting, after a great move of God, after a great meeting, when many people come to Christ, when there is a non-believer attend the service.
D. Aram has a language which is similar to the Hebrew, They sound like us, - There are non believers who sound like us, they act more spiritual than us, that might make more sense to us.
2 King 18:1-4 – Hezekiah-We need to take “negustan” and destroy it. _ People came and worshiped the negustan and never came to the presence of God,
We cannot worship a move of God
We cannot settle down for second best
D. Identify the enemy before you attack them.
6. Elisha placed the hand on Kings’ hand.
May the nail pierced hand place on your hand, ion any attempts and work
May be you think ther prayer is not enough, you feel like you are not being effective
7. This is the arrow of victory. - Victory over Arameans.
Elisha declared – Speak the word with boldness
Your hand and the hand of God
Stone and sling in the hand of David
8. You will completely destroy them at Aphek
A, Where Joshua conquered according to the promise of the Lord (Jopsh.12:18)
B. where you enemy hide ( 1King 20:26-30)
Jesus took the victory for you on the cross, Calvary is the place, fight your enemy at Calvary,
9. Take the arrow and strike the ground
Arrow cannot use to strike the ground –
Do the things beyond your calculation.
10. He only strike the ground only three times.
First time he said – OK
Second he started to add his reasons to it.
Third he stopped listening to the command of the man of God and adds human reasoning to it
You can change the God’s plan for you by not acting according to what is in his mind
11. God gave king the victory even at the time of the enemy and his son.
More than the past generation, God will give us victory in this generation; God will give victory next generation if Lord tarry.
