The blood of the lamb changed the calendar - Exodus 12:2 "This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you".
1. THE BLOOD SHED
"And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening".
The little lamb was to be treated like a pet for four days. It was to be a part of the family. How difficult it must have been for the father to take the knife and kill it. How difficult it must have been for the heavenly Father to punish His Son on the cross for rebels such as we.
2. THE BLOOD SPRINKLED
"they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses"
While in the veins of the lamb the blood was of no use. Even in the bason it was still of no use. Only when it was sprinkled on the doorposts would it save the household from God’s wrath.
Notice that no blood was to be sprinkled on the threshold. It is a fearful thing to trample on the precious blood of Jesus. But alas, many are doing it.
3. THE BLOOD SEEN
"when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt".
The important point is not whether man can see the blood but whether the LORD can see the blood.
The people in the houses were sinful wretches but they were safe.
It’s five minutes to midnight - judgment is coming - are you under the blood?
On the golden streets of heaven all men hope to walk some day,
Yet so many are not willing to accept the living way;
But while others build on good works, or opinions if they may,
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
I’m depending on the blood.
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Saviour,
I’ve been washed in the crimson flood;
Tho’ the world may say there is hope some other way,
I’m depending on the blood.
