Letting Your Faith do the Walking Part IV
Believing the Impossible through Faith
Hebrews 11:11-12
Introduction
We all experience times of feeling like we are at a place of absolute impossibility; unless God comes through then I am doomed.
Abraham and Sarah find themselves in a situation we could look and say that is virtually impossible. They were both well up in years, in fact I would say they were beyond the point of well up in years, they were just plain ancient. Abraham was One Hundred, and Sarah was ninety, and they were promised by God to have a baby.
Before I get to involved with that I want to go back by way of introduction and read to you the very passage where God come to Abraham and makes this promise. Read Genesis 17:15-22 then Genesis 18:9-15.
Tonight as we consider the faith of Abraham and Sarah, we will learn how God does the impossible through faith.
Read Scriptures: Hebrews 11:11-12
I. Earthly Circumstances will not hinder God’s Promises.
Vs. 11a “By faith Abraham, even though he was past age—and Sarah herself was barren”
Grandma was slow but she was ninety years old and pregnant. Those words we say so often when someone is moving are walking really slow, those words sounds like a human impossibility, being ninety years old and pregnant.
Abraham was promised a son born to him by his wife Sarah to be an heir, and God promised that He would make Abraham into a great nation.
The problem is that was twenty-five years ago. Abraham was seventy-five when God made these promises, which is old as it is, but now he is one hundred years old, his wife Sarah is ninety years old, the bible says that they were past child bearing age.
So many circumstances piled up against the promise of God for Abraham and Sarah. The statement that God is making to the world is that there are absolutely no earthly circumstances that hinder Me from doing anything that I want to do.
I am reminded of the words Jesus spoke in Matthew 19:26 “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
God has made so pretty remarkable promises to us an his children, we have the promise of His forgiveness 1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
We have the promise of His Provision Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
We have the promise of His Presence Deuteronomy 31:8 “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
God has promised and no circumstance on in heaven or Earth can hinder God from keeping His promises.
II. Believing God in our impossibilities frees God to do the impossible in our lives.
Vs. 11b “was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.”
I think we can all agree that Abraham and Sarah were at there place of absolute impossibility. The only way that Sarah and Abraham were going to have a child together is if God did it, and they knew it.
When we believe God in our place of Absolute Impossibility if frees God to do the impossible in our lives. When we choose not to believe God in our impossibilities then we are tying the hands of an awesome God who wants to do the impossible in our lives.
I love the way God works so often in Scripture, He waits until there is no doubt that it is Him.
When Elijah was on Mt. Carmel with the 350 prophets of baal, he had Elijah pour several gallons of water on the wood pile to make sure that everyone knew that when this thing catches fire it ain’t magic it is God.
When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace, the furnace was turned up to seven times hotter than normal and then they were in there place of absolute impossibility, and God came thru not before they were thrown in, but after they were thrown in.
God waited to rescue Daniel after he was thrown into the den of Hungry lions, no doubt it was God who did it.
When are at our place of absolute impossibility, and we chose to believe God, then it frees God to do the impossible.
III. When we Believe God in our impossibilities, it frees God to do the impossible, then we reap the rewards of His promises.
Vs. 12 “And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.”
Abraham and Sarah believed the impossible, and God rewarded their faith: they received the impossible. Look at Israel. Israel exists today because Abraham and Sarah believed the impossible promise of God.
Look at believers around the world today, those who profess to born again by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for their sins. They exist today because Abraham and Sarah believed the impossible promise of God. That all nations would be blessed by Abraham’s seed.
When we believe God in our impossibilities, it frees God to do the impossible in our lives, then when God does the impossible in our lives, we reap the rewards of His promises.
