BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Psalms 46:10
INTRO: David, in the 146th Psalm, declares the power, glory, might, ad compassion of God. He then asks his people to BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE
IS GOD. It is important that we pray, and work for God, but there are times when we must be still and listen to what God has to say to us.
Abraham listened to what God had to say to him, and then proceeded to carry out the desire of God. Abraham listened, and knew that it was God talking.
I. ABRAHAM BECAME STILL AND LISTENED TO GOD.
A. Gen. 22:1-8.
B. Got told Abraham to sacrifice his son.
1. God does not always speak the things we want to hear.
2. Abraham would have rather heard anything else that God had
to say.
3. God often calls upon his people to do unpleasant tasks.
C. Abraham did not argue with God, he offered no excuse, and male no
effort to delay.
1. Abraham was tempted disobey, but he overcame this tempta
tion.
2. It was the hardest test he ever faced.
II. ABRAHAM IN THE ACT OF OBEDIENCE TO GOD.
A. Abraham builds an alter for the sacrifice.
1. Gen. 22:9.
2. God led him to, the spot.
3. He laid Isaac on the alter.
a. Isaac was a young man, and Abraham was old.
b. Isaac could have stopped him, but he believed in his fathers
God.
B. God was convinced if Abrahams faithfulness.
1. Gen. 22:10-11.
2. Abraham raised the knife to slay his son.
a. He actually meant to kill Isaac.
b. God had said to, and he would have.
3. Abraham was still listening to the voice Of God.
a. The angel of God spoke to Abraham.
b. Many people have missed blessings because they were net
listening.
C. Got stays the hand of Abraham.
1. Gen. 22:12.
2. Actions speak louder than words.
a. It would have been easy for Abraham to have told of his
plans.
b. He told no one, he proved his obedience by action.
D. God makes a way for those who listen to Him.
1. Gen. 22:13.
2. God prevented the slaying of Isaac.
3. The one who listens to God knows of his plans for their
life.
