HEAVENLY SHOES
Ephesians 6:15
INTRO: What do you look for in a pair of shoes when you go out to purchase a new pair? You look for a good fit, shoes that are well made, won’t hurt your feet or make them sore, long lasting, durable, soft, good looking, etc. How much would you have to pay for such shoes?
Well, today you can have a pair of shoes that have these qualities and more, yet they cost very little.
I. LET US EXAMINE THE SHOES.
A. They come from the greatest cobbler who ever lived.
1. One who is skillful in all arts, and knows by experience what is wanted.
2. He himself was journeyed through life’s roughest ways.
B. They are made of excellent material, well seasoned, soft, durable.
1. The material used is the gospel of peace.
a. Peace with God, as to past, future, and present.
b. Peace of full submission to the divine mind and will.
c. Peace with the Word and it’s teachings.
d. Peace with one’s self.
e. Peace with your brother.
f. Peace with all mankind.
C. No one can make these shoes except Jesus.
D. They are the same shoes Jesus wore.
E. They will never wear out. They are old, yet they are new. All ages may wear them anyplace.
II. LET US TRY THEM ON.
A. They fit perfect — they are made to suit each of us.
B. Their excellent foothold — when wearing them, they
will not slip.
C. Their marching power for daily duty — no sore feet.
D. Their pleasantness of wear — resting the whole body.
E. Their adaptation for hard work.
F. Their endurance of Fire and Water — they stand up to all trials.
G. Their fighting qualities — part of the whole armor
(see text).
III. LOOK AT THE BAREFOOTED AROUND US.
A. The sinner is unshod, yet he kicks against the pricks.
B. The professor is slipshod, or else he is wearing tight shoes.
1. His fine slippers will soon wear out.
2. He loves not the Gospel.
3. He knows not its peace, seeks not it’s preparation.
CONC: The Gospel alone supplies a fit shoe for all feet. To the Gospel, let us all fly and get shorn for the rough path ahead.
