The Song of Moses
Exodus 15:1-19

It’s the first song on record [not cd!]. And it’s a song of salvation. Moses leads and all Israel echoes. Toward the end of his life Moses sings again, but this time it’s a solo and he dies shortly thereafter.
And ever since this song of salvation singing has been a way of rejoicing in God, and it will be forevermore! There are sentimental songs today which catch our attention, but none so endearing as our love for the Lord. We tap our toes and sometimes move more of our bodies to some beats today, but they are worldly and seldom as spiritual as the dance we’ll do in heaven.
[some ask me, can Christians dance? My reply, well, some can and some can’t!]
Salvation and song are like Siamese twins that go together, and Moses’ song was:
1. A Song of Redemption.
Redeemed by blood of the lamb. It’s the only song of salvation and it’s only found in 1 key. All who truly make it to heaven will have sung the same song in the same key. No variations and no alternate arrangements!
Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
2. A Song of Victory.
They looked back and saw their enemies buried, just as our sins are, in the deepest sea. Or if one washed ashore, he was dead, and a reminder of all they had been saved from. We are given victory over sin which pursued us like a blood-thirsty Egyptian. And going with that victory is another over death and the grave...and if we’ll claim it, victory over the world and addictions today!
1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
3. A Song of Praise.
This song was sung unto the Lord, not as a public exhibition of skill or talent...it was a pouring forth of thankfulness. God alone deserved the praise and glory for this and He got it, at least at first!
4. A Song of Testimony.
Notice all the ‘my’s’ in v. 2. What a personal thing our relationship w/ God is. It’s not just my mother’s Bible or Daddy’s Jesus, or even Moses’ song. It’s not the God of our Father’s...He’s MY God! And here’s MY story about MY salvation. He’s in My heart. Here’s MY experience!!
5. A Song of Dedication.
v. 2 “I will prepare Him an habitation.” This is only natural. If God has taken us in the least we can do is give Him a home in our hearts.
Ephesians 2:22
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 6:16
...for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
John 14:23
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He has gone to prepare a place for us...now what place will we give Him. Invite Him to sit upon the throne of your heart!
6. A United Song.
Surely there had been a lot of bickering and fighting up until now, but it’s amazing how great tragedy and great triumph both have the power to unite us together w/ what’s truly important. They all sang in unison, better than the Coke commercial w/ all the candles, and surely much better than ‘we are the world’!
Saved by the same blood of the same Lamb, sanctified by the same Spirit, and singing the same song!
7. A Song on the Other Side!
Right now we cannot bear the thought of loved ones going to hell. Right now we wouldn’t wish it on our worst enemies. But on the other side God will wipe all tears from our eyes, and confronted w/ the holiness and justice of God the destruction of the wicked will not hinder the song of the saved. The rushing together of the waves of judgment will send up a deep and solemn ‘Hallelujah!’
Revelation 15:3
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
On the other side we too will sing louder and longer a new song w/ a fresher and a fuller meaning than ever before! It will ring thru the highest heaven and down through the ages with gathering power and sweetness...and tho’ we spend all eternity trying, we’ll never quite satisfy our heart’s need to praise Him Who is worthy of all the praise!
