HEALING SCHOOL #1: SIGNS AND WONDERS TODAY
DOES GOD STILL HEAL TODAY?
There are many people who don’t believe that God still heals today.
This may be because of (a) personal experience or (b) wrong teaching.
THE BIG IDEA: The goal of today’s message is to convince you through laying a strong Biblical foundation that healing is God’s will today. Because Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever - and He is the Lord who heals us - He is still healing the sick today.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17).
To have faith in healing, you must hear what the Word of God says about healing.
As I taught on prophecy & hearing God’s voice, I heard testimonies from those who did.
OPENING TEXT: The Lord forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.” (Psalm 103:1-3).
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).
STORY FROM THE LIFE OF JESUS: Jesus is the Saviour and Healer
“So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you." And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, "This Man blasphemes!" But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ’Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ’Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--then He said to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." And he arose and departed to his house. Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.” (Matthew 9:1-8).
15 BIBLICAL REASONS WHY HEALING IS GOD’S WILL TODAY:
1. The Love and Compassion of Jesus:
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching…preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them.” (Matthew 9:35-36).
“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14).
2. The Goodness of the Father:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you…how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?” (Matthew 7:7,11).
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” (James 1:17).
Why is healing God’s will today? Because God is good and loves to give good gifts to His kids
3. The Willingness of Jesus:
“And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed…Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him.” (Matthew 8:2-7).
We know God CAN heal, and that God HAS healed in the past, but we question His willingness
4. The Name of the Lord:
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” (Ex. 25:26)
“For I am the Lord, I do not change.” (Malachi 3:6).
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).
Jesus healed the sick 2,000 years ago—He’s the Lord who heals us—so He still heals today!
5. The Glory of God:
“Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them. So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.” (Matthew 15:30-31).
“Jesus answered, Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” (John 9:3).
Whenever the sick were healed in the life & ministry of Jesus, people glorified God
6. The Power of the Full Gospel:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16).
“in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God…I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.” (Romans 15:19).
“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.” (Mark 16:20).
The Kingdom of God is not in word only, but also in power!
7. The Healing Anointing of His Manifest Presence:
“Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” (Luke 5:17).
“And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:19).
There is a healing that comes from being in God’s presence!
8. The Demonstration of His Deity (Proves that Jesus is God):
“When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?…But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like this!” (Mark 2:5-12).
Healing the sick proves to people that Jesus really is a living, miracle-working God!
9. The Gifts of the Spirit:
“to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles.” (1 Corinthians 12:9-10).
Faith, Gifts of Healings, and Working of Miracles are gifts of the Holy Spirit
10. The Name of Jesus:
“Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk…And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.” (Acts 3:6,16).
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13).
There’s power in the name of Jesus—every knee must bow, including every sickness!
11. The Prayer of Faith:
“And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:15).
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24).
Examples from the Life of Jesus:
“But Jesus turned around, and…said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.” (Matt. 9:22).
“And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith let it be to you.” (Matt. 9:28-29).
“And He said to him, Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:19).
12. The Cry of Desperation:
“Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!…So Jesus answered and said to him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" The blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, that I may receive my sight." Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.” (Mark 10:46-52).
Someone said once that God doesn’t answer prayer—He answers desperate, persevering prayer!
13. The Message of the Cross:
“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5).
“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24).
Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law including sicknesses—Galatians 3:13-14.
14. The Destruction of the Works of the Devil:
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38).
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8).
Luke 16:13—Jesus said Satan had a woman bound by sickness, and He came to loose her
15. The Great Commission:
“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease…And as you go, preach, saying, ’The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matt. 10:1,7-8).
“And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues…they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
(Mark 16:15-18).
HOW TO PRAY FOR THE SICK:
DIFFERENT WAYS TO MINISTER HEALING:
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit - word of knowledge, faith, healings, miracles - 1 Cor. 12
Call for your pastors - to pray over someone and anoint them with oil - James 5:13-16
The Prayer of Faith - The ABC’s of Praying for the Sick:
A. ASK IN THE NAME OF JESUS:
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13).
B. BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE:
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24).
“And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith let it be to you.” (Matt. 9:28-29).
C. CONTINUE ASKING UNTIL YOU RECEIVE!
“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up.” (Luke 18:1, NLT).
“Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking." Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.” (Mark 8:22-25).
