Who said these 2 statements…?
“…Beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far inferior that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.”
“Maternity or additional offspring may force upon the woman a distressful life and future. Psychological harm may be imminent…There is also the distress for all concerned associated with the unwanted child… All these are factors that the woman and the responsible physician will consider in consultation regarding an abortion.”
Who do these 2 statements belong to? None other than the U.S. Supreme Court - spoken in 1857 and 1973!
Mother Teresa said, “America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships…It has portrayed the greatest of gifts – a child – as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience.”
Notice In The Womb, There Is:
a. Identity.
Personhood
Genesis 1:27 “And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” NIV
What’s this image? God is Spirit so it’s not physical! It leaves us with the fact that every human being at conception is formed after the nature and perfections of God.
Ephesians 4:24 “And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”
Colossians 3:10 “And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.”
Folks, I submit to you that abortion is destroying the highest qualities of God that are present in the womb!
Church Father, Tertullian in 210 A.D. – “Life begins with conception because we contend that the soul also begins from conception; life taking its commencement at the same moment and place that the soul does.”
President Reagan in his proclamation of personhood in the womb, declared on January 14, 1988… “Our nation cannot continue down the path of abortion, so radically at odds with our history, our heritage, and our concepts of justice. This sacred legacy…demands that protection of the innocents must be guaranteed and that the personhood of the unborn be declared and defended throughout our land.”
“All medical and scientific evidence increasingly affirms that children before birth share all the basic attributes of human personality -- that they in fact are persons.”
b. Infanticide. (God takes this seriously)
Exodus 21:22, 23 “If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life.” NIV
Early church leaders recognized the Bible’s warning:
Letter of Barnabas in 74 A.D. - "Thou shalt not slay the child by procuring abortion; nor, again, shalt thou destroy it after it is born.”
Christian Lawyer, Octavius in 170 A.D. “There are some women among you who by drinking special potions extinguish the life of the future human in their very bowels, thus committing murder before they even give birth.”
The Works of Josephus Flavius – “The law, moreover enjoins us to bring up all our offspring, and forbids women to cause abortion of what is begotten, or to destroy it afterward; and if any woman appears to have so done, she will be a murderer of her child, by destroying a living creature, and diminishing humankind.”
The oldest binding document in history was written by Hippocrates, the father of medicine first wrote in 400 B.C: “…I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art."
Modern Day Hippocratic Oath: “I will maintain the utmost respect for every human life from fertilization to natural death and reject abortion that deliberately takes a unique human life.”
c. Intricacy.
Psalm 139:13-16 “For You formed (created) my inward parts (kidneys); You wove (knit) me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame (skeleton) was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance (embryo - only place used in the Bible)…”
Milestones of Early Life:
Day 1: Conception - of the 200,000,000 sperm that try to penetrate the mother’s egg cell, only one succeeds. At that very moment, a new and unique individual is formed.
The first cell soon divides in two. Each of these new cells divides again and again as they travel toward the womb in search of a protected place to grow.
Day 17: Blood vessels begin to form. Remarkably, the sex cells that will give rise to sperm or eggs for a new generation begin to group together.
Day 18-20: The foundations of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system are laid.
Day 21: The heart begins to beat. The heart beats 70 times per minute at first, reaching a maximum of 170-190 at seven weeks.
Day 26-27: The lungs now begin to form.
Day 28-32: Two tiny arms make their appearance and legs follow two days later. The beginnings of the mouth take shape. The nose starts to develop. The thyroid gland begins to grow. Blood flows in the baby’s veins but stays separate from the mother’s blood.
Day 44: Internal organs are present. 99% of muscles are present; each with its own nerve supply. Electrical activity is detectable in brain.
4 Months: The baby may suck her thumb; turn somersaults and has a firm grip. The ovaries of girls contain beginnings of eggs. She begins to develop sleeping habits and is able to experience pain.
Dr. Bernard Nathanson wrote, “I am deeply troubled by my own increasing certainty that I have in fact presided over 60,000 deaths. There is no longer serious doubt in my mind that human life exists from the very onset of pregnancy.”
d. Intimacy.
Psalm 71:6 “You have been with me from birth, from my mother’s womb You have cared for me, now wonder I am always praising You.” NLT
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.”
e. Impulse.
Luke 1:44 “For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy."
SLIDE: A 3-D ultrasound shows a baby responding with pain (by pulling away) during an abortion.
SLIDE: Dr. Paul Rockwell was tending to a ruptured tubal pregnancy (at two months) and he writes, “I was handed what I believed to be the smallest human being ever seen. The embryo sac was intact and transparent. Within the sac was a tiny human male, swimming extremely vigorously in the amniotic fluid, while attached to the wall by the umbilical cord. The tiny human was perfectly developed, with long, tapering fingers, feet and toes. It was almost transparent as regards to the skin, and the delicate arteries and veins were prominent to the ends of the fingers. The baby was extremely alive…When the sac was opened; the tiny human immediately lost its life.”
Are You Ready For This - with the help of the fetal scope - let’s look at: (THIS PART WAS USED WITH A POWERFUL POWERPOINT PRESENTATION - AVAILABLE BY E-MAILING ME)
SLIDE: The beginning of life! Just because everything is not present – that doesn’t mean it’s not life!
2 Weeks: Fertilization - the sperm and egg join in the fallopian tube to form a unique human being. Forty-six chromosomes combine, which pre-determine all of a person’s physical characteristics.
8 weeks: Facial features are visible, including a mouth and tongue. The eyes have retinas and lens development.
Next Slide…
12 weeks: Vocal chords are complete, and the child can and does sometimes cry (silently). The brain is fully formed, and the child can feel pain.
16 weeks: Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight, eyebrows, eyelashes and fine hair appear. The child can grasp with his hands, kick, or even somersault. The eyelids are now covering the eyes - protecting the delicate optical nerve fibers.
Next Slide: Beautiful portraits!
Next Slide: The fetus may even suck his thumb. A fetus as young as 11 weeks have been seen with their thumbs in their mouths. This baby was observed sucking his smallest toes and gradually moved on to suck his big toe.
Next Slide: Then he’s rubbing and patting his cheek before doing the same to his nose. (Ultrasound)
Next Slide: He tired from a very busy day! (Ultrasound)
20 weeks: The child can hear and recognize her mother’s voice. Though still small and fragile, the baby is growing rapidly and could possibly survive if born at this stage. Fingernails and fingerprints appear. Sex organs are visible. The one on the left is a baby girl.
Next Slide: The fetal scope takes amazing pictures!
24 weeks: The unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair and its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance. The child even practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into developing lungs.
Next Slide: (Ultrasound) eyes are open and looking around with fully developed retinas, babies open and close their eyes intermittently.
32 weeks: The fetus sleeps 90-95% of the day, and sometimes experiences REM sleep, an indication of deep dreaming.
Next Slide: No hair cut needed yet!
