Give Me That Old Time Religion
Part 2
Ephesians 1:15-21
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: {in...: or, for the acknowledgement}
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, {his mighty power: Gr. the might of his power}
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
We have discussed that what we need is that old time religion, what I mean by that is an old time walk that has been walked by our fathers, mothers, and grandparents.
They were willing to live what they say; now days we have too many people who are living in a shadow of what they could have.
I want what the old time saints had because what they had that seems to be lacking in Christians today.
They were persistent in what they were doing, they never let the world side track them, they just kept on pushing and fighting the battles they faced and they were over comers.
They weren’t wimps, they were warriors!
We need that old time persistence that Paul had. No matter what he went through, he knew that God was his answer.
It didn’t matter if he was in prison, stocks and bonds, shipwrecked, stoned and left for dead.
He knew that he had had a revelation; he had had a visitation from Jesus.
Paul, no matter what obstacle he faced, knew that he was a believer, a believer is obedient to the Son, which he was going to face and win.
2 Timothy 1:12
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. {believed: or, trusted}
There were going to be times Paul would suffer. It did not matter because he was not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.
“Nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day”.
Paul was persuaded that Jesus was able to keep what he had committed unto him.
What the old time saints had was a day by day faith which they exercised in daily living.
Ephesians 1:16-17
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: {in...: or, for the acknowledgement}
Paul had a life which practiced intercessory prayer.
In other words, he had a prayer life.
In verse 17, when it says wisdom and Revelation, wisdom is referring to the knowledge of Christ.
The knowledge of Christ we receive through the Word of God, and this enables the Holy Spirit to increase our wisdom and revelation.
Paul received the revelation of Jesus on the road to Damascus.
Paul had heard the Word of God, but he had a hard time accepting that Jesus was the Messiah.
So, on the road of Damascus, there was a revealing of Christ, sometimes when we receive Revelation we still have to dig into the Word to figure out what is going on.
A lot of people have heard about Jesus, but hearing is not enough.
You have to accept that the Bible is true, and that Christ really did die for our sins.
A lot of people who used to go to church as a children have heard, but they have fallen away from what the Word says and what that they have been taught.
Somebody, this morning, needs to get some of that old time Pentecostal religion and start applying it to your life.
We need to be a people who will pray for our families, and when it looks like they won’t accept the Word, give it to God.
I did not say not to mention them in your prayers because I believe that when we pray and we are obedient to Jesus then He will move in their lives.
Somebody, this morning tell God that you accept His Word!
Somebody, this morning, tell God that when it looks bad you will be faithful!
Somebody, this morning, say I am not a quitter and no matter what happens I WILL PUSH ON.
I will pray until something happens.
2 Timothy 1:12
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. {believed: or, trusted}
You might suffer for a while, but keep on believing in what the Word of God says; you are on the winning side.
Ephesians 1:17-19
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: {in...: or, for the acknowledgement}
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, {his mighty power: Gr. the might of his power}
As a Saint of God, you have an inheritance through Him and that is life everlasting.
Verse 19 says:
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, {his mighty power: Gr. the might of his power}
Again when we really believe, we are obedient to the Son of God, Jesus.
There will be a working of His mighty power toward us.
Because we believe and we have faith in Jesus:
I have entitled this today:
Give Me That Old Time Religion and here’s the reason why:
Dream 4-21-08
I dreamed that Susan’s grandpa, but yet it wasn’t her grandpa, was having dreams from God. He told us, that in his life, he had had 4 dreams about Jesus. Susan told him that I had 6 dreams about Jesus in his life. I knew that I had had more but that didn’t matter. He now wanted to discuss the dreams that we both had had about Jesus. I told him how I had dreamed about Jesus behind the clouds and how I saw Him preparing to come back. I told him the only thing keeping Jesus from returning was grace. He got out his dream books and showed me how that over the years he had recorded and numbered his dreams. He told me that every year more revelation came his way. I told him that I did the same thing and that every year my dreams were increasing and revelation was increasing.
Interpretation
Grandpa, but yet it was not her grandpa, would represent something that is being passed on from generation to generation.
The anointing that was on his life needed to be passed on to the next generation, the anointing that has been placed upon my life needs to be passed on.
God wants me to discuss the dreams that He has given me about Jesus.
In 2005, God had given me a dream about Jesus and how Gabriel was getting ready to sound the trumpet.
The only thing that was stopping Christ from coming back was grace.
Every year of this man life he would have more dreams in which he recorded.
Habakkuk 2:1-4
1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. {tower: Heb. fenced place} {unto me: or, in me} {when...: or, when I am argued with: Heb. upon my reproof, or, arguing}
2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
God wants us to know that He is a speaking God, not only will He correct us but when we pray, He will speak to us.
He was to write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he may run who reads it.
God has spoken to us in one way or another but when He speaks a lot of times, I will write it down so I won’t forget.
At times, God will give us revelation and we need to write it down and sometimes we need to share what He has spoken with other people.
When other people hear what God has spoken to us, they might run with what we have spoken.
Sometimes the thing that He speaks does not happen now, but they are for an appointed time.
When it is all said and done with what God has spoken, it will happen.
Sometimes you have to tarry, sometimes you have to wait, but stay faithful to God and in the end what He has promised shall take place.
Habakkuk 2:4
4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Give me that old time religion; it was good enough for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
It was good enough for Joseph the dreamer.
It was good enough for Paul and Silas.
It was good enough for grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles, dads and moms, then it really is good enough for me.
The people of old saw things take place because they were persistent in their walks.
They learned to put God first and really live for Him.
When I was a young child, the things of God was installed in my live and no matter what I did, I could not forget Him.
I strayed but God worked with me because He loved me.
God is no respecter of person if we are willing to be like the old time saints and put God as number 1 in our lives, and pick up the torch that has been passed down to you and pray for your loved ones.
Then the anointing that has been passed on to you, your kids will pick them up and they will pass them on to the coming generation.
Do you want a revealing of Jesus to be passed on? It is time to pick up our torches and start being the children of God that we are supposed to be.
CLOSING
Give us that old time Pentecostal fire that we have heard about.
Where are all of the miracles that we have heard about?
Where is your faithfulness?
Do you need a miracle this morning? Come up to the altars and pray for your loved ones.
