TEXT
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"
1. A SOLEMN PARAGRAPH
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee…"
The inhabitants of Jerusalem were a guilty people. So are we.
My conscience felt and owned my guilt,
And plunged me in despair;
I saw my sins His blood had shed
And helped to nail Him there.
2. A SHELTERING PARENT
"how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens…"
Christ likens Himself to a hen, calling her young unto her. He is calling you to Himself today.
3. A SAFE PLACE
"under her wings…"
Psalm 36:7 "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings".
Psalm 91:4 "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust.
4. A SAD PREFERENCE
"and ye would not!"
Romans 10:21 "All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people".
As Methodists we believe in the doctrine of free-will. Every person can choose whether they receive or reject Jesus Christ.
Sinner, heed the warning voice,
Make the Lord your final choice;
Then all heaven will rejoice:
Be in time.
Come from darkness into light;
Come, let Jesus make you right;
Come, and start for heaven tonight:
Be in time.
