When the devil blocks the door, go through the roof
Mark 2: 1-?
1 ¶ And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
We have here an interesting story about paralyzed man who needed to have an audience with Jesus.
As the story goes Jesus was in some type of house ministering to a group of people.
There had gathered so many people that the house was crowded to the point that no one could get inside the door.
It is quite possible that this paralytic heard about Jesus being in town and he wanted to go where He was thinking he might be healed of his condition.
Or, maybe these four men saw Jesus at this house and ran to get their paralytic friend to bring him to the healer.
But the point is, when they carried him to the house where Jesus was, they could not get him inside.
The room was packed with people; even the doorway was jammed with people trying to see Jesus.
It is quite possible they tried to get people to move so they could get their friend to Jesus.
But no one wanted to lose their place in the crowd. They might miss something!
So, it looked like they might as well give up and take this man back home. Maybe another time, another place.
But they were desperate! They had to get him to Jesus.
So being desperate, these men thought up a good idea!
Why don’t we climb up on the roof and let him down where Jesus is standing?
Now, you have to understand, this was probably not their house!
What would you do if you saw someone tearing your roof off and trying to lower some stranger into your house?
That’s what these guys were doing! They were desperately trying to get this poor sick man to the healer.
It might be their only chance. It could be their last opportunity!
As far as they were concerned, Jesus may not ever pass that way again, and they wanted to make sure this paralytic man had to chance to see him.
So they tore a hole in this man’s roof, and lowered him down to Jesus.
But instead of giving healing, the first thing Jesus said was, “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
Jesus saw in this man a much greater need than healing for his body.
Thank God Jesus is not only the healer, but He is our redeemer!
He is our savior. He has the power to forgive us of our sins.
Jesus wanted that man to walk away with total restoration for both soul and body.
Thank God, this man left that room much different than he came.
He came with infirmities, he left completely restored and healed.
He came with iniquities, but he left forgiven and set free.
He came with no hope, but he left with complete victory.
He came with questions, but he left with the solution.
He came with faith, and he did not leave disappointed.
Even though the door was blocked, another way was made.
I can think of others whose doors were blocked but they never gave up.
A woman who had an issue of blood cried out to Jesus as he was passing by one day.
She was hopeless, her future looked bleak, and her days were numbered.
She tried to get to Jesus, but she couldn’t because of the crowd that surrounded Him.
Her door was blocked. She tried to cry out to Jesus, but the noise of the crowd smothered her voice.
She must have tried over and over again but to no avail.
She must have said, “I’ve got to get to Him. I cannot let this opportunity pass from me. He may never pass my way again.”
“So if I could just touch his clothes, I believe I will be healed.”
So she went around the blocked door, and made her own way to Jesus.
She finally made her way through the crowd and reached out and touched His clothes, and she was immediately made whole.
Her faith and determination made a way when the door was blocked.
Do you have a blocked door today?
Have you been trying to get an answer from God, but the door is blocked?
Has the devil blocked your door to victory?
Have you been trying to press your way through to victory, but every where you turn, the door is blocked?
Listen, Satan will try to block your victory!
He will do everything he can to keep you from getting through!
His desire is to keep you in bondage, to keep you discouraged, to keep you sick, to keep you in debt, to keep you defeated, and to keep you on the bottom.
He knows if you can get through to Jesus you will have victory.
It’s his business to try to block every blessing, every healing, and every success he possibly can.
But if the devil blocks your door, go through the roof!
Don’t let him block your blessings!
Don’t let him hinder your joy.
Don’t let him hinder your peace.
He will send every temptation and trial he possibly can.
He’ll hurl his fiery darts at you and try to bring you down.
But listen, the bible says, 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
What some of you may not realize is, if Satan is blocking your door it is because you allow him to do so.
He may block your door, but you can go through the roof.
He may send a trial your way, but turn that trial into a blessing.
He may send temptations your way, but turn those temptations into victories.
He may bring defeat your way, but turn that defeat into victory by saying, I can do all things through Christ Jesus which strengthens me.
He may block your door of blessings with the biggest battle you’ve ever faced, but remember that No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper.
The word prosper was translated from the Greek meaning, “push forward, or be profitable.
The word weapon was translated from the Greek meaning, “something prepared, any apparatus that may be used as offense or defense.”
Satan prepares a weapon of defeat for you.
He prepares a weapon of discouragement.
He will bring anything to bring defeat and rob you of God’s promises and blessings in your life.
When Satan blocks the door, go through the roof.
God wants you to be free.
God wants you to be filled with joy.
God wants you to have peace.
God wants you to do well in life.
But Satan has blocked the door to your victory by placing obstructions in your way.
But you have the power to overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You see, you must be determined!
If defeat has blocked your door to God’s blessings, don’t just give up and go home.
Don’t grieve over blocked doors. God always has a way to get you through.
You might say, “Pastor, I was about to get a promotion at work, and they placed someone ahead of me.” The door was blocked!
Well, begin to praise the Lord, for God has something better if you don’t give up.
You might say, “Pastor, just about the time I thought I was over that trial I had, and I thought I was in victory, something else happened to block the door.”
Oh, don’t worry about that, there’s just another victory coming your way!
You don’t have to allow the devil to block your doors to victory in your life.
God said you can live in victory.
God said you can be victorious.
God said Greater is He that is within you than he that is within the world.
Some of you are sitting here this morning with blocked doors in your life.
You don’t see any way to victory, so you just gave up.
You don’t see any way to victory over your situation.
So you have resigned to defeat.
But there is an old saying that is so true, “God will make a way when there seems to be no way.”
You can have victory over your situation this morning.
When the devil blocks your door, just go through the roof.
Defeat him anyhow. Devil you will not block my blessings from God.
I will walk in God’s will.
I will serve Him with all my heart.
I will keep His commandments.
I will live a holy life.
I will stand upon the promises of God.
And He will give me victory! That, my friend, is going through the roof.
When you cannot find a way to victory, just look up! God will help you through.
He will make a way for you to escape.
God has something good for you today.
God has a miracle in the making!
